About Orb:
We’re a team that cares deeply about the work, the people we do it with, and the customers we do it for. Everyone at Orb has real ownership over their work, direct access to customers, and a voice in how the company grows. We’re building the revenue design platform that helps teams automate billing, evolve pricing, and grow revenue with confidence.

Looking ahead, joining forces with Adyen expands what we can build and raises the ceiling on the problems we get to solve for customers. The challenges are uniquely interesting, and you’ll be surrounded by thoughtful, ambitious people who move fast and hold a high bar.

For San Francisco Bay Area , New York, and Amsterdam residents, we've built a hybrid work culture where we are in office 3 days/week. For remote roles, we ask you to join us in person 1x per quarter. Our values, customer centricity, minutes matter, run with it, attention to detail, and go further together are at the core of everything we do.

About the role:

This is a rare moment to lead engineering at Orb. As part of Adyen, we're taking Orb toward a massive revenue line, with Adyen's global sales org behind our distribution. You get the ambition and reach of a platform business, plus the scrappiness, ownership, and speed of an early-stage team.

You'll lead a ~30 person engineering team building infrastructure where correctness and scale aren't nice-to-haves. They're the product. Billing is unforgiving: every number has to be right, in real time, at volume. We're looking for a leader who's energized by the monetization and billing domain. Someone who wants to build the technical and process foundations for the next phase of growth, and who's ready to roll up their sleeves to do it.

In this role you will:
  • Coach and grow our engineering managers and senior ICs via hands-on mentorship, clear growth paths, and real career development for the people building Orb.

  • Build our engineering leadership bench and own talent and retention strategy as the team grows and expands to multiple offices.

  • Set and clearly articulate technical strategy by holding your own in deep technical conversations, and raising the bar on how we design systems for correctness and scale.

  • Partner cross-functionally with GTM and our VP of Product to shape product, competitive, and monetization strategy.

  • Establish the technical and process foundations for Orb's next stage of growth: lightweight, high-leverage, and built to scale without slowing the team down.

About you:
  • 10+ years in engineering with several years leading engineering organizations, ideally at infrastructure, platform, or developer-tools companies.

  • Infra- or platform-heavy technical background, with real depth in distributed systems, data, and designing for correctness and scale.

  • You've scaled teams and systems through meaningful growth and you're excited to re-calibrate into scrappy, early-stage mode rather than run a heavy process.

  • Genuinely leaned into billing and monetization. Usage-based pricing and revenue infrastructure is a domain you find interesting and want to go deep on — this is central to the role.

  • A proven people leader who has coached managers, developed senior ICs, and built durable leadership benches, ideally across multiple offices.

  • A strong cross-functional partner who works naturally with product and go-to-market to turn technical strategy into business results.

  • Bias toward lightweight, high-leverage processes; you’ll build foundations that scale without bureaucracy.

  • Some domestic and international travel required.

Orb’s Tech Stack:

At Orb, we believe great engineers can learn any stack, so you do not need experience with these specific tools, and we encourage you to apply regardless.

  • Frontend: Typescript + React + Tailwind CSS

  • Backend: Python

  • Datastores: PostgreSQL + Apache Druid+ Clickhouse

  • Streaming Platforms: Kafka + Spark Streaming

  • Cloud Platform: AWS

Benefits:

  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • One Medical membership

  • Unlimited PTO plus an additional week off between Christmas and New Year’s

  • 401k plan

  • 16-week paid parental leave with equity vesting

  • Commuter stipend

  • Catered lunches in the office

  • Annual learning & development stipend

  • Meaningful equity in the form of stock options

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
