Job Description: Vice President (VP) of Engineering

Location: Santa Clara, CA / Remote

Company: Litmus Automation

About Litmus Automation

Litmus is the leading Industrial Edge Data Platform that unifies device connectivity, data intelligence, and data integration to power the future of smart manufacturing and Industrial IoT (IIoT). We bridge the complex gap between Operational Technology (OT) on the factory floor and Information Technology (IT) in the enterprise, enabling companies to harness their critical data for advanced analytics, AI/ML, and improved operational efficiency. We are a fast-growing company on a mission to transform the industrial world with data.

The Role

Litmus is seeking a visionary and deeply technical VP of Engineering to lead our world-class, global engineering organization. This is a critical, hands-on leadership role for a leader who thrives on high-velocity execution and technical excellence. You will be responsible for the architecture, development, and delivery of our entire product suite, from the edge to the cloud.

You are not just a manager; you are a technical force multiplier, a mentor to your team, and the key driver of our technology strategy and execution. You will command the respect of our engineering team through your technical acumen and your willingness to roll up your sleeves. This role is instrumental in scaling our platform, our processes, and our team as we enter our next phase of rapid growth.

What You'll Do
  • Technical Leadership & Architecture: Provide hands-on technical guidance and architectural direction for our complex edge and cloud platform. Lead from the front, diving deep into code, design documents, and architectural debates to solve our most challenging problems.
  • Drive High-Velocity Delivery: Champion and implement highly efficient, best-in-class software development processes (Agile, CI/CD, DevOps) to ensure a culture of rapid, high-quality product delivery and iteration.
  • Build and Mentor World-Class Teams: Recruit, manage, and mentor a top-tier, internationally distributed engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead AI Initiatives: Spearhead the strategic vision and execution for integrating advanced AI and Machine Learning capabilities into the Litmus platform, turning massive volumes of industrial data into actionable intelligence.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate closely with the CEO, Head of Product and other executive leaders to define the technology roadmap, anticipate future market needs, and ensure our engineering capabilities are a key driver of our business goals.
  • Scale Engineering Operations: Implement rigorous processes and metrics to ensure the engineering organization can scale effectively and efficiently, managing budgets, resources, and timelines to achieve our ambitious goals.

Who You Are
  • A Proven Technical Leader: You have 10+ years of software engineering experience with a clear progression from a distinguished individual contributor (IC) and coder into a senior leadership role (VP, Sr. Director, or equivalent).
  • A Master Architect: You have a demonstrable track record of architecting, building, and delivering complex, scalable enterprise software products that involve Edge Computing, Cloud-Native technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP), IoT, and distributed systems.
  • Hands-On and Deeply Technical: You possess a strong, current foundation in software development and systems design. You are comfortable reading code, evaluating technology choices, and contributing to high-level architectural decisions.
  • An Expert in Process and Scale: You have successfully implemented and refined highly efficient development and scale-up processes in a fast-growing startup environment. You live and breathe metrics, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • A Global Leader: You have significant experience managing, scaling, and unifying high-performing, geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • An AI/ML Practitioner: You have tangible experience working on AI or Machine Learning initiatives and understand how to translate data science concepts into production-ready product features.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

Must Haves - Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years building complex software; 5+ years leading multi-team orgs at Sr Director/VP level.
  • Former standout IC/coder who can go deep in code/design when it matters.
  • Built/scaled edge + cloud systems and shipped enterprise products at scale.
  • Demonstrated velocity improvements (CI/CD, test automation, observability, DORA).
  • Shipped AI/ML features/platforms with MLOps basics in place.
  • Managed global teams with clear operating rhythms and written culture.

Nice-to-Haves: Industrial/OT experience; Yocto/TPM; Kafka/Redpanda; ClickHouse/Timescale; Ignition/OPC UA/MQTT.

 Bonus Points
  • Direct experience in the Industrial Software space, including IIoT, manufacturing, industrial automation, or OT (Operational Technology) is a significant advantage.
