As VP of Investments at Hiive, you report directly to Hiive’s CEO and have a dynamic and entrepreneurial role encompassing two primary dimensions.

First, you will be the CEO of Hiive’s affiliated investment advisor, Hiive Advisors Inc (HAI). HAI’s mandate is to build assets under management by 1) sourcing high-quality investment opportunities for HAI managed funds, 2) establishing a high standard for transparency, accountability and re-sale liquidity for funds traded on Hiive’s platform holding the securities of private, late-stage venture-backed companies.

Second, you will be responsible for new investment product design, development and execution. In this role, you will respond to customer demand signals by delivering new products and bespoke investment solutions for the institutional market.

In this role, your responsibilities would include:

  • Chair the Hiive Advisors Inc. (HAI) Investment Committee, holding ultimate responsibility for all investment decision-making and responsibilities of the Advisor.

  • Determine and implement the investment strategy for any Hiive Fund, including establishing, maintaining, and monitoring investment strategies, policies, and guidelines.

  • Assess, structure, and approve all Hiive-managed fund formations.

  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence of the seller, the company, and the underlying fund for dual-layer funds.

  • Ensure fund obligations are adequately and accurately papered, including raising and decisioning legal and commercial points in purchase and fund governance agreements.

  • Establish, maintain, and monitor pricing and valuation strategies, policies, and guidelines, and review the current value of each holding of any Hiive Fund pursuant to the HAI Pricing policy.

  • Make investment decisions during distributions (e.g., cash/kind, liquidation date, elections) and determine the form and timing of any distribution upon a liquidation event.

  • Direct investor communications for events such as corporate actions, price changes, and transaction term changes.

  • Oversee new fund product design.

  • Oversee multi-asset fund approvals, including execution considerations, price, marketability, and sales pipeline for other funds and directs.

  • Participate in pitches of investment solutions to institutional customers.

  • Mark-to-market warehoused investments to be placed into Hiive-managed funds for marketing.

  • Direct Hiive’s fund administrator to take action with regard to Hiive-managed funds.

  • Act as the funds domain expert at Hiive for internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • Significant experience in determining, implementing, and monitoring complex investment strategies, policies, and guidelines for private funds, with a track record of accountable decision-making.

  • Demonstrated expertise in establishing and reviewing pricing and valuation strategies for fund holdings, including familiarity with institutional-grade valuation frameworks.

  • Strong understanding of fund obligations, purchase agreements, and fund governance, with the ability to raise and resolve legal and commercial points in documentation.

  • Experience chairing a high-stakes investment committee, with comfort holding ultimate responsibility for investment decisions.

Preferred skills:

  • Comprehensive experience assessing, structuring, and approving private fund investments, including conducting due diligence on sellers, companies, and underlying funds.

  • Practical experience making decisions on distributions, liquidation events, and directing fund administration activities.

  • Ability to direct critical investor communications on corporate actions, price changes, and transaction terms.

  • Experience as an advisor or intermediary in private markets, including venture capital, private equity, or late-stage growth investments.

  • Familiarity with fintech or marketplace environments, particularly in businesses managing fund flows or building market network effects.

Compensation, Benefits, & Perks:

  • Opportunity to participate in ownership of a rapidly growing early-stage startup through our employee stock option plan.

  • Comprehensive 100% employer-paid health and dental premiums, and a health and personal spending account.

  • A dedicated desk in our Vancouver, BC HQ, in the heart of downtown, with a fridge stocked with healthy snacks and drinks, an onsite gym, and a gorgeous rooftop amenity.

  • Enjoy a $20-per-day commuter benefit for every day you work in our Vancouver HQ.

  • An engaging social calendar, including bi-weekly catered lunches, bi-weekly “Friday bar,” team workouts, annual summer party, and holiday party, two “onsite” all-team retreats each year, semi-annual team-building events, and Hiive Womens’ Network events.

  • Significant opportunities for growth into team leadership and management roles.

  • Entrepreneurial culture and a small and dynamic team.

  • Sponsorship, immigration, and relocation for exceptional candidates.

Hiive is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all individuals have an opportunity to succeed.
