About Pair Team

Pair Team is a public benefit company reimagining care for the safety net. As an AI-enabled medical group for Medicaid and Medicare, we deliver medical, behavioral, and social care by integrating shelters, pantries and other community-based organizations into our whole-person model. As California’s largest complex care provider, we’ve proven our impact to reduce avoidable emergency care, including a 52% and 26% reduction in ER visits and hospitalizations respectively. Once scaled nationally, our approach would save tax payers $150B per year.

With our years of experience and vast data collected, we are now building an AI platform that embeds social work agents across the safety net to truly unify our fragmented healthcare and welfare system. By scaling our country’s frontline medical and social services workforce, we aim to bring high-touch care to everyone.

At Pair Team, we’re not just delivering care—we’re transforming it. We’re building a future where high-touch, community-driven care is accessible to everyone, especially the most underserved.

About the Opportunity

As our first in-house legal leader, the Vice President of Legal will be responsible for building and overseeing all legal and compliance functions at Pair Team. This role reports to our Chief Medical and Strategy Officer and collaborates closely with our CEO, executives and department leaders across operations, finance, partnerships, marketing, and product. This is a high-impact, strategic leadership role that will shape the legal foundation of a mission-driven, fast-growing healthcare company.

This is a fully remote position with occasional travel to conferences, strategic meetings, and regulatory or partner engagements.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the company’s primary legal advisor on corporate, healthcare regulatory, commercial, product, employment, and privacy matters
  • Build and lead internal legal processes and policies that support risk mitigation, compliance, and business enablement
  • Provide legal and regulatory guidance related to Medicaid, Medicare, value-based care, product development, and other company activities
  • Own the legal side of contract development and negotiation—drafting, redlining, and advising on deal terms for health plans, vendors, and partners
  • Collaborate with operational, clinical and marketing leaders to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations (e.g. HIPAA, Anti-Kickback, Corporate Practice of Medicine)
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel, own the legal budget, and evaluate when to bring legal functions in-house
  • Own and evolve the company’s compliance program, ensuring operational and regulatory alignment as we scale
  • Partner with the executive team on board governance, corporate transactions, equity matters, and fundraising activities
What You'll Need
  • 8+ years of legal experience with at least 3 years in-house at a high-growth digital health or healthcare services company.
  • JD from an accredited law school; active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare regulations and risk structures—especially related to Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and managed care—and strong working knowledge of healthcare law.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulation of healthcare software, including the delineation between Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and clinical decision support tools, and the application of these frameworks to AI-enabled technologies.
  • Experience advising on commercial and vendor contracting, data privacy, corporate governance, and employment law.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, startup environment with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong judgment and business acumen with an ability to balance legal risk and strategic opportunity.
  • A passion for healthcare access and a commitment to serving underserved populations.
Our Values
  • Lead with integrity: We keep our commitments and take responsibility for our actions. We are dependable and choose authenticity over perfection.
  • Embrace challenges: We leave our egos at the door and step forward into discomfort instead of back into safety. We help each other to learn and provide feedback using candor and kindness.
  • Break through walls: We go the extra mile for our patients, partners and one another, and we run toward hard things. We are resilient in our push for consistent improvement and challenge the status quo.
  • Act beyond yourself: We build each other up and respect boundaries. We seek first to understand and assume positive intent.
  • Care comes first: We hold ourselves to the highest standards for our patients. We are relentless in the pursuit of our mission, and ensure that we are taking care of ourselves in order to care for others.
Because We Value You
  • Competitive salary: $260,000 - $280,000 (depending on experience)
  • Equity compensation package
  • Flexible vacation policy – take the time you need to recharge
  • Comprehensive health, vision & dental insurance
  • $50 employer contribution to active HSA accounts
  • 401k through Guideline
  • Life insurance and AD&D
  • Work entirely from the comfort of your own home
  • Monthly $100 work from home expense stipend
  • We provide the equipment needed for the role
  • Opportunity for rapid career progression with plenty of room for personal growth!
  • Travel reimbursements for company off-sites and other work-related travel, as needed
