CopperPoint Insurance Companies has an exciting opportunity for a full-time remote Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney. No billing requirement. The Attorney will provide expert legal representation on behalf of the company and its policyholders in workers’ compensation proceedings before the Appeals Board. The incumbents within this classification will handle various Workers' Compensation cases including high-exposure and complex cases. The position offers a competitive salary plus an annual bonus with an excellent benefits package including a 401k.


Job Responsibilities:

The attorneys will have overall responsibility for the thorough review of claims files, identify legal issues, and conduct discovery in preparation for hearings before the Appeals Board.  The attorneys will conduct settlement negotiations, conduct discovery including interview witnesses, and participate in all hearings before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board.  The attorney will comply with legal filing deadlines on all cases.  


Qualification/Competencies:

  • Required education is a bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college of law; admitted to California State Bar in good standing and 5+ years of experience.
  • Senior-level knowledge of workers’ compensation law, Appeals Board and appellate court rules of procedure, and other related substantive areas of law.
  • Senior-level litigation skills in the following areas: discovery, courtroom advocacy, verbal and written legal communication, settlement negotiations and document preparation, legal research and writing, trial, and appellate advocacy.
  • Senior-level customer service skills in the areas of customer advice, oral and written communication, problem-solving and organizational awareness.
  • Senior-level interpersonal skills to represent the company as a professional attorney and business advocate.
  • Senior-level legal communication skills both verbally and in written form to draft legal motions, and memoranda relating to assigned casework.
  • Complete the necessary Continuing Legal Education each year and maintain good moral character to maintain specialization and bar membership.
  • The attorney must be a member in good standing with the California State Bar and maintain such status.

Salary Range:

  • $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 annually
  • Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
  • In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.

  • We provide some benefits at no cost to the employee (Basic Life Insurance and AD&D at two times an employee’s annual salary, Short- and Long-term Disability coverage, and Employee Assistant Plan).
  • Employees will accrue 0.0846 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) per paid hour, which may total 22 days a year. In addition, employees will also receive 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
