About the role

We’re looking for an accountant to join our small, hands-on team at SeqMatic. This is an onsite individual contributor role with significant ownership and direct exposure to the business.

Customer billing will be the largest part of the role. You’ll own our billing process from orders received through invoicing and payment, working closely with customers and our Sales and Operations teams to make sure completed work is accurately tracked, billed, and resolved. You’ll also have meaningful responsibility across month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting, accounts payable, and our corporate card program.

SeqMatic is a small company, and we see that as an advantage. There aren't layers of corporate bureaucracy or unnecessary process here. You'll work directly with the Controller and other decision-makers, have visibility into how the business operates, and have the ability to identify a problem and actually fix it. We're looking for someone who enjoys that kind of environment: someone willing to roll up their sleeves, take ownership, ask questions, and make things better.

We're also building for the future. Many of our accounting processes are evolving as the company grows, so you'll help develop policies, controls, and workflows rather than simply inherit them. We're particularly interested in someone who looks at a repetitive manual process and thinks, “There has to be a better way to do this." You'll be encouraged to explore automation, systems improvements, and AI tools that make our accounting function faster, more accurate, and more scalable.

This is a great opportunity for an accountant with a strong accounting foundation who wants more ownership, more exposure to the business, and more ability to influence how things are done than they might find in a traditional corporate accounting position.

Key Responsibilities

Monthly Close 15%

  • Own the month-end close process, including preparation and review of account reconciliations and timely resolution of variance.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and consolidated reporting
  • Investigate unusual activity and proactively identify and resolve accounting issues

Billing & Collections 60%

  • Own SeqMatic's customer billing process from quote to cash
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and proactively follow up on past-due customer balances
  • Work directly with customers to resolve urgent or ongoing requests
  • Report on the value of projects in-house to the Sales and Operations team

Payables 15%

  • Manage the accounts payable cycle end-to-end, including purchase orders, invoice coding, approval workflows, and payment processing
  • Own the corporate Ramp card program and administer expense policies

Manage and improve 10%

  • Help build and maintain accounting policies and internal controls documentation
  • Proactively identify manual, repetitive workflows and propose automation or system-driven solutions
  • Document processes as you build them, we’re establishing the framework, not inheriting it
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience; a mix of public accounting and industry preferred is preferred
  • CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with GL accounting across multiple areas, including inventory, fixed assets, prepaids, AP, and cash
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers to resolve billing questions, discrepancies, and time-sensitive issues.
  • Strong Excel skills and an ability to analyze and reconcile financial data
  • Detail-oriented with a systems mindset: you notice inefficiencies and want to fix them
  • Thrives in a small-team environment with high ownership, direct access to decision-makers, and minimal bureaucracy.
  • Comfortable figuring things out rather than waiting for a fully defined process
  • Experience participating in a system implementation or migration is a strong plus
  • Genuine curiosity about AI tools and how they can change accounting workflows
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online Advanced and Ramp
Tools Used

QuickBooks Online, Ramp, HubSpot, Excel, Trello

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, you will:

  • Independently manage customer invoicing from completed project through invoice delivery, with minimal errors and without requiring day-to-day oversight.
  • Independently own the month-end close process, completing reconciliations and reporting accurately and on schedule and proactively resolving issues and variances.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how SeqMatic operates and how Finance interacts with Sales, Operations, and our customers.
  • Begin bringing solutions and recommendations to issues rather than relying on your manager to determine the next step.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Independently own the core responsibilities of the role across billing, month-end close, accounts payable, reporting, and related accounting operations.
  • Be someone the Controller can rely on to keep these processes running accurately and consistently without close supervision.
  • Resolve routine accounting and billing issues independently and know when an issue genuinely requires escalation.
  • Build productive working relationships across the organization.

Within 12 months, you will:

  • Proactively identify and successfully implement improvements to accounting processes, systems, controls, or automation.
  • Be viewed across SeqMatic as a trusted partner who gets things done and solves problems.
  • Demonstrate success through measurable improvements in areas such as billing accuracy and timeliness, days sales outstanding (DSO), speed of the monthly close, and issue-resolution time.
Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, technical accounting knowledge, and other job-related factors.

What we offer (Benefits):

  • 401(k) with company match up to 4%
  • Company provided lunch five days a week
  • 9 company paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday
  • 10 paid vacation days plus 5 paid sick days each year
