Full-time, on-site accountant responsible for school general accounting, internal controls, student billing, accounts payable and receivable, tuition contracts, cash receipts, deposits, financial aid support, journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing assistance. The role requires accurate financial analysis, confidentiality, organization, and effective communication with school leadership and staff.
POSITION SUMMARY
The accountant is a vital, full-time, year-round, on-site role reporting to the Controller. They handle the school's general accounting tasks and oversee internal controls.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Knowledge of accounting standards, audit protocols, and internal control procedures, along with all applicable federal and state statutes.
- Manage student billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Process tuition enrollment contracts, cash receipts, and deposits.
- Assist with financial aid applications.
- Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and support monthly closings.
- Manage financial transactions and data, and perform analytical work with a high level of accuracy while meeting time-sensitive deadlines despite interruptions.
- Operate as a reliable, organized professional who can prioritize many tasks simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Adhere to confidentiality standards at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five years' accounting experience, preferably within a school setting and/or non-profit organization; school experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience with general ledger applications, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact frequently with the Controller, Vice President for Finance, President, other school administrators, Business Office Team members, faculty, and staff.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Blackbaud Tuition Management accounting (or similar financial and billing program applications).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn financial accounting software and other programs as assigned.
SALARY RANGE
- $35 - $45 per hour
- 12 months, full-time, non-exempt position
