As the leading end-to-end investment platform for single-family rental homes (SFR), our mission is to reinvent the rental housing ecosystem for the benefit of all. We successfully merge our passion for helping investors build wealth through real estate with cutting edge technology that transforms the way they do it.

How it's going (and growing)

In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in the Bay Area and New York City. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Stessa (financial and asset management software), RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors).

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Manager, Accounting  to lead our accounts payable, procurement, and corporate accounting functions. This is a hybrid role that pairs ownership of AP and procurement operations with hands-on general accounting: booking and reviewing journal entries, researching GL issues, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, owning payroll and benefits accounting, and producing cash reporting and the monthly close package. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can both manage a team and dig into the details of the close.

Responsibilities

  • Own AP & Procurement: Manage and oversee the full cycle of accounts payable and procurement operations, including invoice processing and approval routing, purchase order workflow, contract approvals, vendor onboarding/KYC, and vendor escalations
  • Payroll & Benefits: Own payroll and benefits accounting, including related journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Journal Entries & Account Reconciliations: Prepare and review journal entries. Reconcile 100% of balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Month-end close: Support the monthly close process, ensuring deadlines are met and results are accurate and compliant with US GAAP, and speed up the close to a 4 to 5 day timeline
  • Reporting: Produce recurring cash reporting (monthly at minimum, ideally weekly) and the monthly close package, including GAAP financials, reconciliation to non-GAAP measures (including EBITDA), and cash analysis
  • Team management: Manage a team of two initially (may increase next year), including day-to-day supervision, workload assignment, and review
  • Cross-functional: Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, external consultants, and other departments on special projects
  • Process improvement: Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • AI & automation: Identify and implement AI-driven automation for journal entries and accounting workflows to improve accuracy and accelerate the close process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 1-2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role
  • Experience managing month-end and year-end close in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on experience with accounts payable and procurement operations
  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial reporting tools

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with major ERP systems (NetSuite)
  • Experience with AP or procurement platforms (Zip, Ramp)
  • Payroll and benefits accounting experience
  • Big 4 or large regional public accounting experience
  • CPA preferred
