R.F. MacDonald Co. is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our accounting operations and support the financial health and continued growth of the organization.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys developing teams, improving processes, and partnering with business leaders to drive financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and sound business decisions.

In this role, you'll oversee day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. You'll work closely with the VP of Finance/Controller and operational leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strengthen accounting practices, and support the company's financial objectives.

We're looking for someone who brings strong technical accounting expertise, a collaborative leadership style, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do
  • Lead accounting operations: Oversee daily accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, credit, fixed assets, and payroll.

  • Manage financial reporting: Lead the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting within a five-business-day close cycle.

  • Provide financial insights: Analyze financial and operational performance, profitability, budget variances, and key business trends to support leadership decision-making.

  • Support budgeting and planning: Partner with the VP of Finance/Controller and General Managers to develop annual budgets, review financial submissions, and evaluate business performance.

  • Ensure compliance: Oversee compliance with GAAP, applicable accounting regulations, California and Nevada sales and property tax requirements, and Davis-Bacon prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting.

  • Strengthen internal controls: Evaluate and improve accounting policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.

  • Coordinate audits: Manage the annual independent audit process, including preparation of supporting documentation and coordination with external auditors.

  • Manage cash flow and credit: Monitor cash flow, oversee reporting to the parent company, evaluate customer credit exposure, and support timely collection of outstanding receivables.

  • Develop and lead the team: Supervise, coach, and develop accounting personnel while promoting accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Drive process improvements: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and improve overall financial operations.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

  • 4–6 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including experience leading or supervising accounting functions.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and month-end close processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop accounting professionals.

  • Experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reconciliations, and internal controls.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting and financial management systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.

  • Strong business acumen, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

  • Experience with NetSuite and/or Adaptive Planning.

  • Experience in the construction, industrial services, or related industries.

  • Knowledge of California and Nevada tax regulations, prevailing wage requirements, and certified payroll reporting.

  • Experience managing accounting operations across multiple business units or locations.
