The Accounting Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting of the University’s activities related to tuition, expenses, investments, and accounts payable. Duties include preparing daily and monthly journal entries to ensure accurate financial statement presentation; overseeing the accounts payable function and supervising a team of clerks to ensure timely processing of invoices, payments, and expense reports; tracking and reporting quarterly sales and use tax returns; managing vendor relationships and resolving payment related issues; working with Business Services staff to ensure all cash activities are recorded accurately and consistently with revenue and expense recognition policies; analyzing accounts payable reports such as aging schedules, cash flow projections, and vendor performance metrics; managing daily treasury operations, including cash flow, bank relations, and cash position reporting; developing and implementing solutions to complex accounting issues; preparing monthly balance sheet account reconciliations; providing documentation, explanations, and audit support for external and credit-related auditors; preparing monthly internal and external grant reports; managing debt repayment schedules; and drawing down federal funds based on authorized disbursements.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE: Five years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate work experience in the job offered, as an Accountant, Financial Analyst, or related occupation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Any experience in the following:

  • Applying state and federal tax and regulatory codes.
  • Performing data mapping, validation, and reconciliation to support accurate financial reporting and GAAP compliance using Ellucian Colleague or another higher-education ERP system.
  • Developing and maintaining structured financial models and automated reports for variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Working with external auditors to prepare, review, and validate supporting schedules for financial audits and NCAA agreed-upon procedures audits.
  • Designing or implementing automated solutions within an ERP system to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
