Our mission at Ello is simple and urgent: maximize the potential of every child, everywhere. We're building the world's first AI teacher to close that gap: one that listens, speaks, adapts, and inspires, just like the best human educators.

Our first product, Read with Ello, is already helping tens of thousands of kids each week learn to read. It listens as they read aloud, offers support when they stumble, and generates magical, personalized stories. It works, and kids love it.

Now, we're scaling that success into something even bigger: a complete AI teacher that can help children learn far beyond reading. Our new app combines language, speech, and memory to deliver interactive learning for kids worldwide; check it out here. We're moving fast: we ship weekly, test directly with kids, and push the boundaries of what's possible with AI in education.

With the resources of the world's top investors and the heart of a public benefit corporation, we're here to revolutionize how children learn globally. Featured on TIME's Best Inventions and Fortune's Change the World, Ello is a small, mission-driven team taking on one of the most important challenges of our time: to democratize education.

About the Role

This role sits at the intersection of AI creative production and learning design. You'll take a lesson objective and outline from our curriculum team and turn it into images, animations, and short videos that make a lesson feel alive for a 4-8 year old — using the fastest-moving AI generation tools available today. We're looking for a full-time contractor with at least 30 hours/week available.

This isn't a “receive a brief, execute it” role. You'll build the pipelines that let us generate this content fast without sacrificing quality, and you'll partner directly with a subject matter expert to shape activities that actually teach, not just entertain. We're building from the ground up, so you'll be defining what “AI-generated learning content” looks like at Ello as much as producing it.

What You'll Do
  • Create high-quality images, animations, and video clips using AI tools (Midjourney, Sora, Veo, RunwayML, Stable Diffusion, Magnific, Suno, ChatGPT, etc.)

  • Build and refine pipelines to generate assets at a fast pace without sacrificing quality

  • Edit and assemble AI-generated content into polished, final videos ready to ship into a lesson

  • Design scalable visual and interactive patterns that map to the skillset our AI tutor actually has available

  • Take a lesson objective and outline and turn it into engaging images and short videos that hit the mark

  • Partner with a subject matter expert to design learning activities for kids that balance challenge, fun, and real-world relevance

Key Requirements
  • You're an expert in AI video, image, and audio generation tools (Midjourney, Sora, Veo, RunwayML, Stable Diffusion, Magnific, Suno, ChatGPT, etc.), and you're quick to pick up new ones as they ship

  • You have a strong design sensibility and effectively leverage AI tools to bring your vision to life

  • You have a portfolio that shows you can turn a rough idea into something visually compelling — AI-generated or otherwise, education-related or not

  • You have a real, specific way AI tools have changed how you work — not just "I use AI sometimes," but a workflow or pipeline you've built or adopted recently and what it changed

  • You're energized by zero-to-one environments, iterating quickly based on real product feedback rather than a finished spec

  • You're self-directed and collaborative — you can take a lesson objective and figure out the rest

Nice to Have
  • Experience with traditional video editing software (Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or similar)

  • Background in math, early literacy, ESL, or bilingual education

  • Content creation experience (social platforms, children's media) with a track record of strong engagement

  • Familiarity with instructional design or child development principles

  • Experience teaching or working directly with kids

We look for candidates who
  • Are genuinely excited about helping kids learn — not just about the craft of AI-generated media

  • Move fast and don't need every detail pre-defined for them

  • Give and take direct feedback well; we're building this in real time and need people who improve the work, not just execute a brief

  • Are honest about what's working and what isn't, including with each other

Reasons to join us
  • Play with the newest AI creative tools before most studios have even touched them — on lessons real kids use the next day

  • Do work that directly shapes how millions of children could learn to read, do math, and love learning

  • Be one of the earliest people defining what AI-generated learning content looks like at Ello

  • Flexible, remote, async-friendly work

About Ello

Ello is a public benefit corporation on a mission to maximize the potential of all children. We're currently around ~50 people, headquartered in San Francisco with a second office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Our team has deep expertise in artificial intelligence, K-12 education, and child development across institutions such as Stanford, Berkeley, Google, Apple, and more. We were part of Y Combinator's W20 batch and are funded by world-class investors including Goodwater Capital, Homebrew, Reed Hastings, Common Sense Growth, Ravensburger, Project A Ventures, Reach Capital, Khosla Ventures, WndrCo, Visible Ventures, and K9 Ventures.

We're a small, collaborative team that takes each other's voices very seriously. Because our mission is to support all children, it is critical that our team is representative of the communities we work in; we place significant emphasis on ensuring diversity in our team and inclusion in our culture. If you have questions about immigration, reach out to us at [email protected].

We feel enormously privileged to be building at this moment. Advances in AI have made it possible, for the first time, to imagine giving every child a truly personalized teacher. We don't take that opportunity for granted.

We work with urgency because millions of children can't wait. We care deeply about craftsmanship because learning experiences should feel magical. And we believe it's possible to build ambitious technology while building a company where people do the best work of their careers.

If that excites you, we'd love to meet you.

At Ello, diversity is a moral imperative and a competitive advantage. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, skin color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We plan and structure our interviews to assess skills and experience directly. If you need accommodations throughout the interview process, please contact [email protected].
