About the Team

The Growth team is responsible for helping millions of users discover the value of ChatGPT and seamlessly access our paid experiences. We build the mobile experiences that drive activation, conversion, and retention across our subscription products.

Our work sits at the intersection of product, design, engineering, and experimentation. We own critical user journeys including upgrade surfaces, purchase experiences, subscription management, and the end-to-end experiences that help users get the most value from ChatGPT.

As an Android Engineer on Growth, you'll help shape how users experience and engage with ChatGPT's paid offerings on one of our most important platforms.

About the Role

We're looking for an Android engineer who enjoys building polished consumer experiences and using data to improve them over time.

You'll develop the mobile surfaces that power subscription growth, including upsells, upgrade prompts, purchase flows, entitlement experiences, and other high-impact product initiatives. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and backend engineers to rapidly experiment, learn from user behavior, and deliver intuitive experiences to millions of users.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of three days per week in the office.

In this role, you will:
  • Build and ship high-quality Android features that improve activation, conversion, and retention for ChatGPT's paid offerings.

  • Own end-to-end development of growth initiatives, from technical design through launch and iteration.

  • Develop subscription experiences including paywalls, upgrade prompts, purchase flows, and entitlement management.

  • Partner closely with product, design, and data teams to define hypotheses, run experiments, and measure impact.

  • Use experimentation and user insights to continuously improve the paid user experience.

  • Contribute to the evolution of our Android architecture, tooling, testing practices, and engineering standards.

  • Help maintain a fast, reliable, and delightful mobile experience for millions of users.

You might Thrive in this role if

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful Android experience.

  • A track record of shipping and maintaining consumer-facing Android features at scale.

  • Proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

  • Experience integrating backend APIs and building robust client-side architectures.

  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, collaborative environments with product ambiguity.

  • Strong product quality, craftsmanship, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience using data and experimentation to inform decisions and iterate quickly.

  • Bonus: subscription or in-app purchase systems, growth engineering, A/B testing, Google Play Billing, entitlement management, Jetpack Compose, analytics instrumentation, or consumer products at large scale.
