The Applications Engineering Manager leads technical support for Pressure Management products, drives profitable sales growth, and serves as a strategic liaison between the sales channel and the Company.
Based in Stafford, Texas, this role combines strong product and application expertise with a commercial mindset to help the organization identify opportunities, develop differentiated solutions, quote effectively, and win business. The manager enables the Applications Engineering team through clear priorities and effective tools.
- Providing technical assistance to the field salesperson concerning product applicability and installation practices
- Partnering with sales to identify, qualify, and advance opportunities that support profitable growth, market share expansion, and strategic account objectives
- Developing and participating in customer sales presentations
- Defining and coordinating special customer product modifications
- Leading the technical and commercial quality of quotations by ensuring solutions are accurate, competitive, responsive, and clearly communicate customer value
- Evaluating special proposals, quotation strategy, pricing considerations, risk, and value differentiation to improve win probability and protect profitability
- Providing an interface between the sales channel and the company
Developing and conducting product and application training that strengthens the team’s ability to position solutions and win business
Support and Develop Applications Engineering Team:
- Continuously reviewing and improving internal processes and communications that affect the speed, quality, consistency, and commercial effectiveness of application support
- Equipping the Applications Engineering team with effective tools, standards, data, and workflows that improve productivity, quotation quality, responsiveness, and visibility to priorities
- Setting clear performance expectations and using relevant measures—such as response time, quote quality, conversion, customer impact, and workload—to drive accountability and continuous improvement
- Coaching application engineers to connect technical recommendations to customer value, competitive differentiation, and sales outcomes
Partnering with functional leaders to develop technical, commercial, and leadership capabilities within the team
Interdepartmental Responsibilities:
- Train and develop application engineering personnel
- Manage daily workload and align resources to driving growth for the company
- Act as a liaison between sales and other internal departments
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Sales, Product Management, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and other teams to remove barriers, improve execution, and deliver competitive customer solutions
- Establish clear ownership, escalation paths, and feedback loops for complex quotations and strategic opportunities
- Promote customer and commercial awareness among all employees
- Analyze common product problems and coordinate solutions
- B.S. in Engineering or a related technical field required.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in engineering, marketing, technical sales, or applications engineering.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and sales mindset, with the ability to connect technical solutions to customer value, growth opportunities, competitive differentiation, and profitable business outcomes.
- Experience developing or improving quotation processes, evaluating technical and commercial risk, and supporting strategies that increase responsiveness and win probability.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and empower technical teams through clear expectations, effective tools, scalable processes, and performance feedback.
- Ability to influence across functions and align Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Operations, and other stakeholders.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Access; SAP knowledge preferred
- Ability to handle delicate customer relationships with diplomacy
- Must be able and willing to travel within North America 10% of the year
- Commercial leadership experience strongly preferred
- Experience in engineering
