SAGE Campbell is seeking an Assistant Hospital Manager to support operations within our busy specialty and emergency veterinary hospital. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing clinical teams, supporting department leads, optimizing staffing and workflows, and ensuring exceptional patient care and client service. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, operational expertise, and a collaborative approach to managing teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

In your day-to-day, you will:

Team Leadership

  • Coach, mentor, and develop clinical department leads
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Support employee engagement and professional growth initiatives

Staffing & Workforce Management

  • Manage daily staffing levels and allocate resources across departments
  • Assist department leads with schedule development and workforce planning
  • Support call-out management and staffing adjustments to maintain operational efficiency

Training & Employee Development

  • Partner with department leaders to create and implement training programs
  • Develop and maintain departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Support clinical skill development and continuing education initiatives
  • Create and execute onboarding plans for new employees
  • Monitor onboarding progress and support successful integration into the hospital team

Hospital Operations

  • Serve as a key communication resource for clinical teams
  • Promote consistency in policies, procedures, and workplace expectations
  • Support corrective action processes and employee performance management
  • Collaborate with Hospital Managers, Medical Directors, and leadership teams to improve efficiency and client service
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements and safety standards
  • Support a safe, organized, and compliant work environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on hospital needs
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably within a veterinary or clinical environment
  • Experience managing facility operations and supervising multiple direct reports
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, employee development, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong commitment to client service and patient care excellence
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, 24/7 hospital environment
  • Experience with organizational change management and process improvement initiatives
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • CA Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) required within 60 days of hire unless a valid California RVT license is held
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary industry experience with knowledge of specialty and emergency hospital operations
  • Understanding of veterinary patient care workflows and clinical best practices
  • Experience utilizing staffing and scheduling software platforms
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives
