The Associate General Counsel will handle strategic transactions, AI data licensing, global supply chain issues, and provide legal counsel on various commercial matters within a robotics company.

Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The goal of the company is to ship humanoid robots with human-level intelligence. Our robots are engineered to perform a variety of tasks in the home and commercial markets. Figure is headquartered in San Jose, CA and requires 5 days/week of in-office collaboration.

We are looking for a business-first attorney who treats legal drafting as an engineering challenge rather than an academic exercise, and a "full-stack" commercial expert who is equally comfortable negotiating a global robotics supply chain as you are architecting complex AI data licensing structures.

Figure’s vision is to deploy autonomous humanoids at a global scale. The ideal candidate is detail oriented who can operationalize our legal department and excel at transforming manual processes into automated, reliable systems that support Figure’s mission.

Responsibilities
  • GPU & AI Infrastructure: Lead high-stakes negotiations and procurement agreements for global data center capacity, GPU compute, and complex technology licenses.
  • Data Collection & Privacy: Define our legal strategy for AI training data. Structure novel agreements for real-world data collection and ownership, ensuring Figure strictly controls its proprietary datasets while navigating global privacy regimes.
  • Global Supply Chain & Hardware Procurement: Act as the legal lead for manufacturing, distribution, and vendor agreements. Navigate international trade and Asian supplier ecosystems to secure physical components, lock in supply continuity, and protect our IP.
  • Strategic Commercial Advising: Deliver clear, actionable counsel on outbound partnerships, IP rights, and emerging robotics regulations. As an early team member, pitch in on general corporate, litigation, and transactional matters as needed.
Requirements
  • Experience: 4-7+ years of relevant legal experience at a top-ranked law firm.  A combination of law firm and in-house experience at a high-growth startup or tech leader is preferred.
  • Education: J.D. from a top accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the California Bar (or ability to register as In-House Counsel).
  • Drafting & Negotiation: Proven ability to independently draft and lead negotiations for "first-of-their-kind" agreements in the AI, robotics, and hardware spaces
  • Communication: Ability to frame complex legal issues succinctly for executive leadership, providing clear "go/no-go" recommendations rather than open-ended legal memos.

Bonus qualifications

  • Privacy & Data Mastery: CIPP/US or other CIPP certifications; experience drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and agreements for data collection in AI contexts
  • Manufacturing Background: Prior experience in a hardware-focused environment with a deep understanding of supply chain regulatory regimes.
Compensation

The US annual base salary range for this position is between $225-$300,000

The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits (including equity) depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
