About this roleResponsible for providing leadership and supervision of NJCAA Division II and Division I intercollegiate athletic and club sports programs. Ensures safety, facility maintenance, academic, financial, and risk management standards are met. Directs athletic functions, coaches athletic teams, coordinates fundraising events, and establishes and maintains community relations with local high schools and donors. This role may be required to work a fluctuating schedule to include nights, weekends, and at other locations as needed.

What a day of an Athletics Director looks like:

  • Serves as a head coach, providing competitive coaching, supervision, and management of the assigned athletic team and staff.

  • Develops and maintains athletic policies and procedures. Researches, interprets, and complies with NJCAA, FCSAA, Title IX, institutional, and other applicable rules and regulations.

  • Oversees and promotes athletics on all campuses and in the community including campus visits, community service, special events, tabling, and fairs.

  • Identifies and explores new sport trends and potential offerings.

  • Conducts all tasks related to the preparation of the annual and other periodic budgets for the department. Holds appropriate parties accountable for financial practices that promote sound fiscal management including implementing cost savings on travel, equipment, and other department needs.

  • Directs gameday operations. Schedules the personnel required to ensure proper coverage and successful operation of events.

  • Represents the College at athletic competitions. Observes and evaluates the performance of direct and indirect reports. Coaches, mentors, guides, and provides leadership to staff.

  • Coordinates rentals and usage of the athletic fields, courts, and gym for athletic, College, and public events.

  • Identifies and implements outside funding sources in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Develops on-going fundraising campaigns, such as sports camps and training seminars, and monitors the effectiveness of the programs implemented.

  • Establishes relationships with local high schools and community partners. Collaborates with departments to build public relations, marketing, and communications programs for athletic programs.

  • Develops short-term and long-range goals, objectives, priorities, and recommendations.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree

  • Four years of related experience, to include supervisory experience

Knowledge of:

  • Sports and sport-specific rules.

  • NJCAA and Title IX rules and regulations

  • Athletic program best practices and procedures

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications

Skilled in:                

  • Thinking strategically, effectively analyzing data, and implementing data-informed decisions

  • Managing and resolving conflict in a positive manner

  • Motivating employees to apply the effort necessary to attain organizational and departmental goals

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

Ability to:

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service

  • Accurately manage a budget

  • Create a collegial, team-building work environment, cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with all constituent groups

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Must be regularly present at most College sporting events

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $83,826.00 annually; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
