About the Team

OpenAI is building the next generation of advertising for an AI-powered world. As AI changes how people discover information, explore possibilities, and make decisions, we believe this presents a huge opportunity for small and medium-sized businesses to connect with customers in new ways.

The SMB Ads Marketing team is building this opportunity from the ground up. We define how businesses discover OpenAI’s advertising platform, become successful advertisers, and grow their investment over time. Working closely with Product, Ads Engineering, Data Science, and Sales, we combine customer insight, rigorous experimentation, and fast execution to turn early opportunities into scalable growth.

About the Role

We are looking for an Audience & Content Growth Lead to build the global content and education programs that inspire, inform and engage SMB advertisers.

This is a zero-to-one opportunity to shape how small businesses discover and understand advertising with OpenAI. You will turn customer needs, product capabilities and advertiser success stories into compelling content—from webinars and educational video series to case studies, industry-specific playbooks and creator-led programs.

The role combines two areas of ownership: developing content specifically for SMB audiences and building effective ways to distribute it. You will lead programs directly while partnering with teams that own web, social, lifecycle marketing, growth and regional channels to reach the right audiences at scale.

Success means building an engaged SMB audience and helping businesses move from awareness to understanding, confidence and action.

In This Role, You Will

  • Set the global SMB content strategy and editorial roadmap, grounded in customer needs, industry priorities, and advertiser maturity.

  • Create compelling customer stories, case studies, vertical playbooks, guides, videos, and thought leadership that make advertising accessible and actionable.

  • Launch repeatable education programs through webinars, expert sessions, workshops, and on-demand learning that help businesses get started and improve their advertising.

  • Grow audiences through owned, shared, and partner channels. Build distribution plans with web, social, growth, lifecycle, and regional teams.

  • Develop creator-, expert-, and customer-led programs that combine credible education, authentic storytelling, and relevant audience reach.

  • Scale programs across markets with regional teams. Adapt formats, languages, customer stories, and distribution to local needs.

  • Lead editorial planning, production, agencies, and creative contributors. Maintain quality, accessibility, and accuracy, using AI to support content creation, adaptation, and reuse.

  • Measure audience quality, engagement, learning, and advertiser action with Growth, Lifecycle, and Data Science. Use experiments and feedback to improve content and distribution.

You Might Thrive in This Role If You

  • Bring 10+ years of experience in content marketing, audience development, or customer education, including programs for SMBs or advertisers.

  • Demonstrate ownership of content creation and distribution that grows relevant audiences and drives customer action.

  • Translate complex products into clear, engaging content through strong editorial judgment and storytelling.

  • Build repeatable programs across formats such as webinars, video, customer stories, vertical playbooks, and creator-led content.

  • Lead cross-functional and partner-led distribution, aligning teams around shared priorities and measurable outcomes.

  • Measure learning, intent, and business impact alongside content consumption.

  • Adapt global programs to different markets and audiences in partnership with regional teams.

  • Combine strategy with hands-on writing, editing, creative briefing, and program execution.

Preferred Experience

  • Bring experience with advertising platforms, marketplaces, or technology businesses serving SMBs.

  • Build on experience in advertiser education, customer advocacy, creator partnerships, or partner-distributed learning.

  • Draw on experience in both established technology organizations and startup or zero-to-one environments.

Workplace & Location

  • San Francisco, CA. This role requires a hybrid schedule with an in office requirement from Monday - Wednesday.
