Guided by our Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life, our Cranial & Spinal Technologies (CST) Operating Unit develops and delivers an integrated ecosystem of spinal implants, navigation and robotic guidance systems, advanced imaging, and data-driven planning tools for complex spine and cranial procedures. Platforms such as AiBLE connect these technologies to enhance surgical precision, streamline workflows, and support improved patient outcomes around the world.

         

         

The Business Development Consultant is responsible for identifying, developing, and advancing growth opportunities across the Cranial & Spinal Technologies portfolio. This role builds strong relationships with healthcare customers and stakeholders, evaluates market opportunities, and partners cross-functionally to drive strategic growth, customer value, and business performance.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Develop and execute business development and market development plans aligned with organizational priorities
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across assigned markets and accounts
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with surgeons, hospital leaders, health systems, distributors, and other key stakeholders
  • Assess customer needs and recommend solutions that maximize the value of Medtronic’s products and services
  • Conduct market, customer, and competitive analysis to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities
  • Develop account and opportunity strategies, including stakeholder mapping, value propositions, and action plans
  • Partner with sales, marketing, clinical, medical education, finance, contracting, and other cross-functional teams to advance opportunities
  • Communicate customer insights, competitive intelligence, and product feedback to internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Operations, and Research & Development
  • Support product launches, customer education, demonstrations, workshops, and strategic business initiatives
  • Track opportunity pipelines, activity, and outcomes; provide regular updates and recommendations to leadership
  • Promote compliance with Medtronic policies, quality systems, applicable regulations, and ethical business practices
  • Travel as needed to support customers, field teams, meetings, and business priorities

Required Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent and 12+ years of relevant sales, clinical, or related experience; or Associate’s degree and 10+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience in medical devices, medtech, healthcare, life sciences, business development, or complex solution selling
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships, identify opportunities, and influence decisions across complex customer environments
  • Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a matrixed organization
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Valid driver’s license and active vehicle insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with spine, cranial, biologics, enabling technologies, robotics, navigation, imaging, or related surgical technologies
  • Experience working with hospitals, integrated delivery networks, health systems, or large strategic accounts
  • Established relationships with healthcare professionals and executive-level customers
  • Experience developing market strategies, business cases, or customer value propositions
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to guide business decisions 

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):175000-175000


The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
In addition to Base Salary, this position is eligible for a Sales Incentive Plan (SIP), which provides the opportunity to earn significant incentive compensation for achieving or exceeding your goals.

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).
