Business Development Representative
Comp: $60K–$85K + Equity + Commission | On-site SF (Remote considered)
At some point in the future, every business will answer their phone with voice AI. We are building the platform that makes it possible.
Phonely builds conversational voice AI agents for high-volume phone workflows. Our customers use us to qualify leads, book appointments, route calls, and resolve real customer conversations in production. We are growing fast and need people who can open doors.
About the Role
We're hiring a Business Development Representative to generate pipeline and book meetings for our sales team. This is an outbound-heavy role where you'll be reaching out to companies that run call centers, manage high call volumes, or rely on phones to drive revenue, and getting them in front of our Account Executives.
This is an excellent entry point into enterprise tech sales. You'll learn the voice AI space from the inside, work directly with the founding sales team, and have a clear path to an AE role as the team scales. If you're hungry, competitive, and want to be at a company where your work directly impacts revenue from day one, this is it.
We're not looking for someone who wants to send templated emails and hope for the best. We want someone who researches prospects, crafts thoughtful outreach, and knows how to get a conversation started with busy decision-makers.
What You'll Do
• Prospect and identify target accounts in key verticals (insurance, healthcare, home services, BPOs, lead gen, financial services)
• Conduct outbound outreach via email, phone, and LinkedIn to generate qualified meetings
• Research prospects deeply: understand their call workflows, pain points, and business model before reaching out
• Qualify inbound leads and route them appropriately
• Book discovery meetings for Account Executives
• Maintain clean, accurate records in the CRM
• Collaborate with marketing on campaigns, events, and content-driven outreach
• Hit weekly and monthly activity and pipeline targets
• Learn the product and competitive landscape inside and out
What You'll Bring
• 1+ years in a BDR, SDR, or outbound sales role (or equivalent hustle, we'll consider non-traditional backgrounds)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable making cold calls and sending cold emails without flinching
• Competitive, coachable, and motivated by targets
• Organized and disciplined about daily activity
• Genuine interest in AI, voice technology, or SaaS
Nice to Have
• Experience selling into call centers, telecom, insurance, or healthcare
• Familiarity with sales tools (Salesforce, Outreach, Apollo, LinkedIn Sales Nav)
• Previous startup experience
• Background as a former athlete or competitor
Why Join Phonely
We are a team of ex-athletes, founders, and builders with low egos and high standards. We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. On-site in San Francisco, meals covered, quarterly offsites to interesting places (Rocky Mountains, Costa Rica, Indonesia), and meaningful equity in a company that is growing fast. You will work directly with the founding sales team and have a clear path to an AE role.
Interview Process
1. 15-min intro call to evaluate fit
2. Mock outreach exercise: research a target account and walk us through your approach
3. Conversation with a team member on sales fundamentals
4. Final conversation with leadership
