The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant provides surgical support services, performs advanced medical procedures, and delivers patient care in a VA clinical setting.
Position Overview
Provide specialized cardiothoracic surgical support services, including assisting in the operating room, performing advanced procedures, and delivering direct patient care in a VA clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries (first and second assist)
- Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (radial and saphenous)
- Conduct procedures such as:
- Central line placement (ultrasound-guided)
- Chest tube insertion/removal
- Swan-Ganz catheter placement/removal
- Cardioversion and pacing wire removal
- Support robotic and bedside surgical procedures
- Document care in electronic health records (EHR)
- Ensure compliance with patient safety, HIPAA, and VA standards
- Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Current, unrestricted medical license
- BLS & ACLS certifications
- Extensive cardiothoracic experience required, including:
- 100+ endoscopic vein harvesting procedures
- Strong clinical, surgical, and communication skills
- Part-time: 2 days per week
- 6 hours per day
- No on-call or off-hours required
