OVERVIEW

Modern Treasury is hiring a finance leader to shape the company’s next phase of growth. This is a strategic role with broad influence across the business.

This person will partner closely with the CEO and management team on company strategy, organizational design, and resource allocation. They will play a key role in building and scaling Modern Treasury’s payments business, helping shape its business model, partner economics, pricing, and path to attractive long-term unit economics. More broadly, they will help determine where we invest our people and capital to create long-term company and shareholder value, while bringing a rigorous economic perspective to product, pricing, and strategic decisions.

They will also lead our approach to capital markets and strategic transactions, serve as a clear and credible partner to our Board and investors, and build and scale the finance organization, including defining how AI should transform the way the function operates.

This role reports to our CEO.

ABOUT MODERN TREASURY

Modern Treasury provides trusted infrastructure for money movement. We help teams launch and scale payment experiences in days, not months. With best-in-class developer tools and a single API for fiat and stablecoins, plus built-in compliance, ledgering, and reporting, Modern Treasury enables businesses to move money instantly, reliably, and at scale.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Shape company and operating model: Partner with the CEO and management team on the decisions that determine how Modern Treasury is built and where it focuses. Help shape organizational structure, including teams, roles, and responsibilities.

  • Drive resource allocation and long-term value creation: Help determine where we should invest our people and capital to create the greatest long-term company and shareholder value.

  • Guide the economics of our product: Bring an economic lens to product strategy and roadmap decisions and pricing and packaging, including the expected value of new products and capabilities, investment tradeoffs, and build, buy, or partner decisions. Negotiate with financial partners and banks, and drive the economics that make our payments business work.

  • Lead capital markets and strategic transactions: Identify and consult on the best way to meet our capital needs. Lead primary capital raises, debt facilities, M&A and other strategic transactions, as needed.

  • Partner with the Board and key investors: Communicate Modern Treasury's financial performance, outlook, and strategy clearly and credibly. Help the board and investors understand both the company's near-term performance and long-term opportunity.

  • Lead and scale the finance function: Build and manage a high-performing team and scale it over time as the business becomes larger and more complex.

  • Set AI strategy for finance: Develop and implement a point of view on how AI can make the finance organization more effective, from how the team operates to the capabilities it can provide to the rest of the company.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • You have a combination of strategic judgment, commercial instincts, and financial depth.

  • You think and act as a company builder and a driver (not a passenger).

  • You've navigated strategic transactions such as primary capital raises, debt financings, or M&A.

  • You're a strong communicator and storyteller who can represent the business clearly and credibly with boards, investors, and other external stakeholders.

  • You've operated in a high-growth startup and with experience in investment banking, private equity, or venture capital as a plus.

  • You have fintech experience in the infrastructure or application layer with payments experience as a strong plus.

  • Note on leveling: Depending on the person, this could be a VP of Finance or a Chief Financial Officer role.
