We are actively searching for an experienced and energetic individual to become Chief Accountant for Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco!

The Role - Overview

The Chief Accountant supports the Assistant Director of Finance in overseeing all financial aspects of the hotel’s operations. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

The role also provides oversight of key finance functions including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general cashiering, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, local regulations, and internal controls. Responsibilities may be adjusted based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Assistant Director of Finance in maintaining effective internal controls to safeguard the hotel’s assets.

  • Oversee and take ownership of the month-end close process, including preparation of financial statements, accruals, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with corporate standards.

  • Ensure all daily, monthly, and periodic financial reporting is completed accurately and on time.

  • Safeguard cash assets through bank reconciliations, cash counts, and timely investigation and reporting of any discrepancies.

  • Oversee billing, income audit, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and resolve operational finance issues.

  • Ensure all invoices are properly coded and allocated in line with approved budgets.

  • Participate in physical inventory counts and ensure accuracy in count, pricing, and valuation.

  • Reconcile and prepare monthly owner income statements.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or Assistant Director of Finance.

  • Ensure effective management of accounts receivable, including accurate billing, timely collections, and monitoring of aging accounts to minimize risk.

People

  • Identify coaching moments and ensure that those moments become opportunities of learning and development.

  • Have the ability to supervise the day-to-day duties of the Finance team and assist as necessary.

  • Meet with the Assistant Director of Finance on a regular basis to communicate all accounting activities.

  • Prepare reviews and development plans and take appropriate personnel-related action with hourly staff as required.

  • Have a global working perspective, and possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

Product

  • Thoroughly understand and possess a working knowledge of the Accounting & Finance Manual

  • Excellent understanding of Month-End Process including, but not limited to, preparation of financial statements, accruals and journal entries, maintain reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts in established corporate formats and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of all local, state and federal tax returns and other reporting on a timely basis.

  • Ensure post-departure credit card credit allowances are performed only by accounting and all such allowances are reviewed and signed per the SR-5 by Director of Finance or Assistant Director of Finance.

  • Continuously strive for improvement of processes and efficiency.

  • Assist the Director of Finance and Assistant Director of Finance in preparation of all budgets and forecasts.

Profit

  • Monitor and control expenses of the hotel paying special attention to the daily reporting and addressing issues that not only have material effect, but also effect the guest experience.

  • Ensure that House Funds and Floats Counts are up to date and limit any kind of exposure that would affect the profitability. 

Qualifications & Experience

1.  Two (2) to five (5) years' experience with a Finance Department, hotel experience required

2. Candidates with a degree in accounting or finance, or similar, are preferred.

3. Ability to quickly and positively establish rapport is required.

4. Above average communication skills - both written and oral - are required.

5. Current Four Seasons employees, bilingual candidates and those with prior experience in a luxury hotel/environment will receive priority consideration.

6. Prior experience managing staff and programs in a unionized setting is preferred, but not required.

  • Full Time

  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
