About Us

We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.

We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like OpenAI, Toyota, Figma, Ramp, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.

Notion is an in person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day).

About the role

We're looking for a Chief of Staff to support our Chief People Officer. This person will design, build and execute key strategic and operational initiatives that power our Talent strategy. You'll support strategic planning and execution across cross-functional teams, manage communication and executive support (including co-creating strategy and comms alongside our CPO and running quarterly all-hands), and ensure operational excellence through process management and documentation. This role is critical to scaling our People function while maintaining our culture and driving measurable business impact through AI integration and systematic approaches - all in service of our mission to help the People team work smarter - not harder.

What you'll achieve

Strategic Planning & Execution: Support the Head of Strategy & Operations in partnering with our Chief People Officer and People Staff Leads to craft our People strategy. Execute People team initiatives that span multiple departments and coordinate between People team and other functions. Support partnerships with our People leads and business leaders to shape the future of Notion's workforce, including global expansion opportunities, headcount planning, and strategic programs. Help execute the integration of AI and emerging technologies across the People function to unlock smarter, faster, and more strategic decision-making.

Communication & Executive Support: Develop and execute team communications strategy, including co-creating executive, company-wide communications. Act as a thought partner to the Chief People Officer and Head of People Strategy and Operations on strategic initiatives and decision-making. Create compelling content for all-hands presentations, leadership updates, and cross-functional stakeholder communications to ensure consistent messaging across the organization. Run quarterly all-hands meetings and support executive communication on people topics.

Operational Excellence: Organize and facilitate People team meetings and planning sessions, and manage project timelines for complex people initiatives with multiple stakeholders. Create scalable documentation and processes to maintain quality as we grow. Represent People team perspective in company-wide leadership discussions.

Skills you'll need to bring
  • 5+ years of work experience in consulting, strategy, operations, or program management roles
  • Experience in high-growth startup or scale-up environment (ideally 1,000+ employees)
  • Curiosity about AI technology and fluency in streamlining operations using AI
  • Systems thinker who has the ability to execute remarkably fast, with conviction, exemplary judgment and limited guidance
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to write comms on behalf of leadership
  • Track record of leading cross-functional projects and influencing without direct authority
Nice to haves
  • Experience with people analytics tools and HR systems
  • Background in organizational psychology, HR, or related field
  • Previous experience as Chief of Staff or similar strategic support role
  • Understanding of the developer/tech ecosystem
  • Background working with Notion

We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
