This newly created position is designed to help Gordian better manage its government and regulatory affairs portfolio by centralizing engagement with coalitions, interest groups, contractor and labor organizations, and other associations with which Gordian participates. The position is designed to be remote, and travel is required.

We are seeking a talented manager with a combination of government affairs expertise and some familiarity with government contracting processes. This individual will drive communication and engagement with key interest groups and coalitions to shape government policy around construction procurement, cooperative purchasing, and facility assessment and planning. He or she will be a direct report to the Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, and will work closely with other senior leaders, directors and managers within this rapidly growing company.

The successful candidate will focus a great deal on government policy around Job Order Contracting (JOC) for public facility and infrastructure owners. JOC is a procurement method and construction process that helps federal, state and local governments, schools, hospitals, higher education institutions and others maximize efficiency, optimize cost savings, and increase construction quality. Since Gordian’s inception, research and development of JOC best practices is at the core of the business. Out of this research and development came the most comprehensive and detailed database of construction tasks and pricing in the industry, software specifically tailored for the JOC process, and field experts supporting JOC implementation at hundreds of government clients at the federal, state, and local levels

Gordian is not a construction contractor. Gordian is a consultant, helping clients understand needs about their physical assets and implement business process change before those clients hire contractors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive coalition engagement strategy in conjunction with Gordian leadership and other members of the Government and Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize external political associations, trade organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholder networks that can advance organizational goals.
  • Serve as the primary representative to key coalitions, associations, and other stakeholder groups, including seeking positions on appropriate committees and working groups.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with coalition political and executive leadership.
  • Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to senior company leadership regarding coalition opportunities, risks, and emerging trends, including preparing executive-level briefings and reports.
  • Facilitate internal decision-making related to coalition participation, policy positions, and stakeholder partnerships, including annual coalition planning and strategy review.
  • Ensure coordination across business units and external-facing teams.
  • Monitor political, legislative, regulatory, and industry developments that may affect company strategy and external coalition priorities.
  • Establish success metrics, and track coalition performance, outcomes, and return on investment.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have experience in coalition engagement, and a familiarity with the legislative, regulatory, or government procurement process. This person must have the stature, credibility and leadership to move the business forward. Experience with contractor or labor organizations is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working with trade associations, political organizations, advocacy groups, or industry coalitions.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing external stakeholder or coalition strategies.
  • Strong understanding of legislative, regulatory, and political processes.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with senior external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to influence and coordinate across multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Unassailable integrity and values.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to achieve key outcomes including:
  • Directing a portfolio of stakeholder engagement campaigns to positive conclusions
  • Successful advancement of policy, regulatory, and business objectives through coalition activities
  • Increased organizational influence and visibility within priority stakeholder communities.
  • Timely identification and management of emerging stakeholder opportunities and risks.
