Plan and execute public-facing events and sponsorships to build grassroots awareness. Manage end-to-end logistics, vendor and press relationships, run-of-show, creative activation ideas, and post-event follow-up. Work with Brand and Public Affairs, capture event content, and engage audiences to translate complex technical ideas into accessible stories.

Drought is not a distant problem. More than 100 million Americans are affected by it right now. Aquifers are depleting. Rivers are shrinking. The farms, ecosystems, and communities that depend on reliable water are under strain.

Rainmaker exists to change that. Using next-generation cloud seeding — advanced drones, radar + satellite, and cutting-edge weather software — we work with the atmosphere to increase precipitation in places that need it most. We recharge aquifers, restore snowpack, support agriculture, reduce wildfire risk, and generate water for ecosystems that have been going without.

Rainmaker is the first company in history to unambiguously measure and validate the results of a cloud seeding operation. We've already produced 143 million gallons for Oregon and Utah, and we're just getting started.

But breakthroughs only matter if people know about them. The water crisis is real and urgent, and our solution is something most Americans have never heard of or don't fully understand. Some have questions. Some have misconceptions. Many would be inspired and galvanized if someone just told them the story well.

That's why this role exists. You will be a key contributor to our Brand and Communication team’s mission to position Rainmaker as a civic utility and a known cultural entity.

We're looking for a rare kind of person — equal parts strategist, connector, and communicator. You will be the one who organizes our public-facing events and sponsorships, shows up at the right venues, organizes grassroots efforts, and leaves people genuinely excited about what we're building. This is not a behind-the-desk role.

The mission

We have discovered that real life interactions are the most powerful way to tell our story to the people who need to hear it most.

As Rainmaker’s Community Engagement + Events Coordinator, you will build grassroots awareness and brand loyalty through high-quality, on-brand public presence. From intimate private dinners with lawmakers to festival sponsorships and college tours, you’ll identify and pursue the right opportunities: conferences, cultural moments, and community touchpoints that fit our brand.

Working directly with Rainmaker’s Head of Brand and Director of Public Affairs, you will:

    • Coordinate logistics end-to-end — venue, logistics, guests, run-of-show, vendor relationships, and post-event follow-through.

    • Ideate on creative, outside-the-box ways for Rainmaker to show up in the world.

    • Source local and regional press opportunities relevant to Rainmaker’s mission

    • Shoot and sometimes star in content that captures the energy of events and demos for our channels (optional)

Who we're looking for

You're magnetically personable and obsessively organized. You translate complex or technical ideas into language that feels accessible, and you put our executives in the right rooms and in a position to tell our story to the world.

Maybe you've spent time at an events or PR agency and you're ready to go deeper and own something. Maybe you graduated recently with a communications, marketing, or liberal arts background and you've already been the person who organizes everything, speaks confidently, and figures out the details everyone else misses.

We are a deeply complex engineering organization, so there is a learning curve. A curiosity about frontier technology, science, and building a generational company is a must.

What we do want to see: evidence that you can manage moving parts without losing the thread — whether that's professional experience, internships, or significant events you've organized on your own initiative. Comfort speaking with people from a variety of backgrounds, and seamlessly managing relationships. A sense of aesthetics and an instinct for what feels right and what feels off.

Experience with basic content production is a plus, not a requirement.

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
