About 1X
We build humanoid robots that work alongside people to solve labor shortages and create abundance.
About the Role
As a Configuration Management Engineer at 1X, you will own the systems and processes that keep our product structure accurate, our changes controlled, and our builds reliable — across every stage of development and production. Executing within a complex multi-subsystem platform spanning mechanical assemblies, electromechanical actuators, electrical systems, and embedded compute.
You will be the connective tissue that ensures every engineer, manufacturer, and supplier is building from the right revision, at the right time.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain — and is critical to our ability to scale production while continuing to iterate rapidly.
Responsibilities
Own and administer our PLM system, including part number creation, multi-level BOM management, item master maintenance, lifecycle state governance, and user access control
Drive end-to-end change management processes — facilitate Change Control Board (CCB) meetings, process ECOs and deviations, and ensure technically accurate change documentation with strict revision control
Govern the top-level product assembly structure and BOM for NEO, managing interface requirements and master geometry models across all robot subsystems
Support NPI builds (EVT/DVT/PVT) by ensuring BOM and drawing readiness, and collaborate cross-functionally with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams
Review engineering drawings prior to release, validating clarity, dimensioning, revision blocks, and GD&T compliance to ASME Y14.5 standards
Create frameworks to track and release multiple product configurations that may be simultaneously at different stages of development across our San Carlos and Hayward facilities
Implement component roadmaps including part obsolescence management, replacements, alternative vendors, and cost reduction initiatives
Develop and maintain CAD/PLM best practices guides and hold training sessions to ensure consistency across all engineering teams
Manage synchronization between PLM, ERP, and CAD systems to ensure a single source of truth for product data
8+ years of experience in Configuration Management, PLM Administration, or Mechanical Design Support within a hardware development environment (robotics, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, or other complex engineered systems)
Strong hands-on proficiency in a PLM platform (e.g., Arena, Teamcenter, Windchill) including complex BOM structuring and ECO workflow management
Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent) with a focus on large assembly management and structured product architecture
Solid understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and 2D drawing management
Demonstrated ownership of engineering change processes and documentation control across mechanical and electrical assemblies
Experience managing revision control and configuration accuracy in a multi-site environment
Strong cross-functional communication skills — you should be comfortable coordinating technical initiatives across multiple subsystem teams
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
Benefits & Compensation
Salary Range: $150,000 – $200,000 + Equity
Health, dental, and vision insurance
