Job Summary 

The Control System Integration and Design Engineer role performs routine tasks related to Industrial Control Systems (ICS)/ Operational Technology (OT) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) systems. This role executes the design, configuration, and programming of SCADA/Human Machine Interface (HMI) designs and PLC systems. This role will review control system architectural designs and plans under general supervision and possess an intermediate level of competency and proficiency in role-specific skills. Problems encountered may be intricate, but not typically complex, and this role is expected to make preliminary decisions within established guidelines and procedures as well as effectively explain best practices to client organizations. 

Responsibilities 

  • Complete tasks in Industrial Control System (ICS)/Operational Technology (OT) Design and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) System design. 
  • Contribute to configuration and programming of SCADA/Human Machine Interface (HMI) designs and PLC systems. 
  • Participate in control system commissioning and startup processes. 
  • Take part in design reviews with clients and other BC consultants and contribute to control system (ICS/OT) architecture design and planning evaluation procedures. 
  • Analyze and interpret P&IDs, specifications, control schematics and control strategies. 
  • Maintain an understanding of networking in the ICS/OT space and cybersecurity requirements related to ICS/OT systems. 
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. 

Mentorship  

  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Proficiency in SCADA/Human Machine Interface (HMI) design, configuration and programming. 
  • Demonstrated competency in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) System design, configuration and programming. 
  • Solid grasp of control system commissioning and startup procedures. 
  • Understanding of ICS/OT systems, including architecture design and planning evaluation protocols, along with an understanding of networking and cybersecurity requirements in the ICS/OT space. 
  • Communicates effectively to convey facts, policies, and practices. 
  • Takes initiative in problem-solving situations. 

Experience 

  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years’ related work experience in Control System Integration and Design and ICS/OT systems. 
  • Typically certified in BC’s Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies. 

Education 

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience is required. 

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months is strongly preferred.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location B: $85,000 - $116,000
