The Firm

Paradigm is a San Francisco-based investment firm focused on frontier technologies across the globe, with over $11 billion in assets under management. We make investments in companies and protocols at all stages, ranging from early-stage venture financing rounds to growth equity to liquid assets.

Paradigm was founded in 2018 and is co-led by managing partners Matt Huang and Alana Palmedo. We’ve been hard at work investigating the world’s most beautiful technical problems since day one. Our research-driven approach helps us build relationships with founders and entrepreneurs, but it also reflects our broader goal of accelerating the progress of frontier technology.

The Role

Paradigm is looking for a Controller to be the right hand to our CFO and VP of Finance. The heart of this job is to become the expert on our flagship fund, every nuance of its mechanics, economics and GP mechanics while keeping a finger on the pulse of our venture funds.

We’re looking for someone who learns fast, forms independent views and can be a thought partner for the team.

What matters most

  • Deep fund expertise. Our flagship fund is an evergreen structure with side pockets, redemptions, and incentive allocation mechanics that reward genuine mastery. You’ll be expected to own its nuances end to end and become the person others check their understanding against.

  • Situational awareness. Across the funds, management company and GP entities, you keep a running picture of capital activity, cash, valuations and open questions.

  • Technology-forward mindset. Paradigm’s finance team operates at the leading edge of AI: we build our own tools, automate our own workflows and actively rethink processes rather than inherit them. You need to be genuinely open to working this way and excited that how we do things today likely isn’t how we’ll do them next year.

  • Speed of learning. We care less about whether you’ve seen a specific fact pattern before and more about how quickly you can reason your way to a defensible answer.

What that looks like in practice

  • Fully reviewing the monthly books our fund administrator produces: NAV packages, management fees, carry, performance and independently confirming accuracy.

  • Owning quarterly reporting and regulatory filings

  • Reviewing fair value marks under ASC 820

  • Monitoring cash and capital activity across the funds - calls, distributions, redemptions

  • Ruling on methodology questions and acting as an approver in finance workflows

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in fund accounting, with exposure to both closed-end and open-ended structures preferred

  • Fluency with ASC 820 and ASC 946, and comfort reviewing complex valuation work

  • Comfort adopting new technology fast - you’d rather learn a new tool than defend an old process and working with AI day-to-day sounds energizing, not threatening

  • Quick study, low ego, high ownership; energized by ambiguity, not blocked by it

Attributes

  • Exceptional team player; people-oriented

  • Self-starter and highly proactive

  • Extreme open-mindedness

  • Great listening skills

  • Clear and concise communication

  • Attention to detail

  • Empathy toward the concerns of others, both within and outside Paradigm

  • Adaptability in rapidly changing circumstances

  • Highly curious; fast learner

  • An overall positive attitude
