Join NYL Enterprise Intelligence as the head of Platform Engineering. This is a platform-founding role within the Technology, Data, AI and Ventures Organization. The team's mission is to transform New York Life's 180 years of proprietary data into bleeding-edge AI intelligence - embedded at the point of every decision, compounding competitive advantage with every interaction. You will operate at the intersection of deep technical architecture and enterprise strategy - translating bleeding-edge AI capabilities into business outcomes, influencing senior stakeholders across every line of business, and building the organizational foundation that defines how New York Life competes for the next decade.
Role Overview
The Head of Enterprise Intelligence - Platform Engineering is the founder and general manager of this platform engineering organization. You will own the technical vision, strategy, engineering roadmap, and organizational buildout spanning Data & Analytics Engineering, Software/AI Engineering, and ML Operations.
You define the intelligence layer that New York Life's AI capabilities are built on - and engage directly with senior business leaders across the enterprise to drive adoption of the architectural foundations that make enterprise AI possible
What You'll Do:
You define & build the intelligence layer that New York Life's AI capabilities are built on - influencing NYL's myriad businesses align to a cohesive strategy.
Platform Architecture & Technical Direction
• Set the architectural vision for the enterprise intelligence platform: cross-cloud data movement patterns, the end-to-end agentic stack, and the foundational data products that power both traditional and AI-driven experiences - spanning Databricks, BigQuery, Dynamo, Postgres, dbt, and containerized workloads.
• Drive the agentic and AI component strategy for the platform, leveraging technologies such as Vertex AI, Gemini, and Google ADK to establish the runtime foundations the enterprise will build on.
Engineering Organization Leadership
• Build and lead Enterprise Intelligence platform - three high-performing verticals (Integration Services, Data Services, and MLOps Services) - instilling a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and product thinking.
• Own the full people strategy: hiring, development, leveling, and headcount planning across all engineering levels.
Stakeholder & Partner Management
• Serve as the senior technical voice for the enterprise intelligence platform - presenting architectural direction, trade-offs, and roadmaps to stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
• Define the platform boundary and drive adoption in partnership with product team leads, ensuring the platform is the foundation - not a parallel track.
• Manage strategic relationships with hyperscaler partners and consulting firms to accelerate platform delivery and stay at the forefront of the field.
• Partner with Cyber, Governance, and Risk to ensure the platform meets enterprise security and compliance standards at scale.
What You'll Bring:
• 12+ years of progressive data and software engineering experience; 5+ years in technical leadership or principal/staff architect roles.
• Deep hands-on expertise with cloud data platforms: AWS, GCP, and Databricks with a focus on Data Engineering.
• Demonstrated experience designing and operating AI systems - including LLM orchestration, RAG pipelines, MCP server infrastructure, and AI gateway patterns.
• Strong command of data governance at scale: catalog tooling, data lineage, access control, and cross-cloud PII management.
• Proven ability to build and lead engineering organizations of 10+ engineers, including hiring, leveling, and performance management.
• Exceptional communication skills - ability to translate complex architectural decisions and technical trade-offs into clear, compelling narratives for senior leadership - bridging the gap between deep engineering context and executive decision-making.
• Decomposing Ambiguity - ability to transform ambiguous, high-stakes business problems into structured execution plans - decomposing complexity into actionable engineering roadmaps with clear ownership, sequencing, and measurable outcomes
Preferred
• Experience in regulated industries (insurance, financial services, healthcare) with direct exposure to data privacy frameworks and enterprise security standards.
• Hands-on experience with agentic orchestration frameworks such as the Google Agent Development Kit (ADK) or Vertex AI Agent Engine.
• Familiarity with MCP server security design, AI observability tooling, and enterprise AI gateway architecture
