Overview• Mastercard is committed to balancing innovation while protecting individual privacy and has embraced privacy and data protection as core to the successful execution of our business strategy. As part of that commitment, Mastercard has established a world-class privacy program and is adding talent to our global team.• The Counsel - Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility role will ensure compliance with global privacy and data protection laws while enabling data-driven innovation within the Mastercard Services organization, with particular focus on supporting the Security Solutions (SSO) business line. In particular, the position will support SSO products in the AI-Network Solutions, Payment Resiliency, Financial Crimes, and Digital Experience & Disputes Portfolio.• The position will report to the Senior Managing Counsel, Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility who provides global privacy support for the SSO business line, and will serve as a member of both the Global Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility team and the Law & Policy team. • The ideal candidate will have the ability to think and act both strategically and tactically with respect to the needs of business clients and their objectives while ensuring that the corporation remains compliant with privacy and data-related laws, as well as industry best practices.
Role• Engage with business and legal stakeholders to conduct privacy by design reviews for new SSO products and services and proposed synergies with other areas of the business.• Among other things, this involves advising on the intersection between privacy laws and other legal requirements pertaining to the lawful use of data and AI in connection with fraud prevention, satisfying regulatory requirements relating to financial crimes, and increasing the resilience of payments and payment systems through services offering increased transparency and dispute resolution capabilities-including developing business-friendly legal guidelines for these activities while following the Mastercard privacy by design process.• Negotiate complex data-related agreements (including data processing agreements), quickly identifying the legal and strategic implications of contractual terms and conditions.• Identify business requirements resulting from new and evolving privacy laws and regulations, and provide guidance on topics relevant to the SSO organization, including but not limited to the use of AI modeling and scoring capabilities, data rights and use, the application of emerging/advanced privacy technologies, and helping design controls for data environments used to support fraud prevention offerings and synergies.• Collaborate with other internal stakeholders on regional privacy analysis and advice relating to global SSO products and services, including helping advise on data governance controls to support compliance with applicable laws.
All About You• JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in the US.• Demonstrated experience advising companies on privacy, AI and data-related issues.• Demonstrated familiarity with understanding data flows and the associated privacy implications.• Expertise in global privacy and data regulatory laws and frameworks, including the GDPR and privacy principles that are common across global laws and regulations. • Demonstrated experience in relevant technologies including data anonymization, privacy enhancing technologies, and artificial intelligence, and familiarity with ethical frameworks, data governance, and accountability.• Familiarity with emerging technologies in the financial services industry.• Strong analytic capabilities and written and oral communication skills.• Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering with legal, business, and technical colleagues.• Familiarity with Privacy by Design methodologies.• Strong writing skills and ability to simplify technical material for other audiences, including business teams, legal departments, and regulators.• An ability to acquire a deep understanding of Mastercard products and services in the SSO space.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.
