About Column

For companies building financial technology and transforming the financial services space, the biggest bottleneck to their growth and innovation is often the underlying banks and infrastructure stack they rely on. We have spent our careers founding and scaling companies like Plaid, Square, SoFi, Blend, and Affirm, and have seen this problem firsthand — builders and developers needing to partner with traditional banks, and creating API and abstraction layers over the patchwork that is the bank, its core, and many other vendors. All of this results in a complex (and often expensive) banking supply chain involving a user, fintech, BaaS middleware provider, bank, core and the Federal Reserve.

At Column, we set out to simplify and fix this. We are a bank and a software company built from the ground up, offering builders and developers technology-forward banking solutions that cut out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. This means a safer, more transparent, and less costly banking supply chain. Come build with us!

The opportunity

As a member of the Credit Oversight team, you will serve in a key role in managing the Bank’s loan portfolio and credit partnerships.  You will be a key member of the first line credit team, responsible for managing the Bank’s various credit partnerships and loan portfolios, including approving credit policies, communicating reporting requirements, completing ongoing portfolio performance monitoring, warehouse line oversight, overseeing loan portfolio audits, and contributing to the Bank’s reserving process under CECL. You will be responsible for providing reporting to the Bank’s executive leadership.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a variety of leaders across the Bank, including Column’s business, engineering, risk, and finance teams, to drive value and design a best-in-class approach to credit risk management. This role requires significant interaction with the Bank’s leadership and, potentially, regulators. We are looking for someone with experience reviewing, approving, and implementing credit policies, takes a data driven approach to loan portfolio monitoring and management, and brings strong attention to detail to analyze credit risk across Column.

This role reports directly to our Head of Investing & Treasury, and is in-person in our Presidio-based office in San Francisco (4 days/week).

What you’ll do
  • Work directly with the Bank’s credit customers to approve credit policies, manage ongoing changes, communicate reporting and data requirements, and stay up to date on performance trends

  • Identify, measure, monitor, report on, and oversee credit risk across the Bank; this includes developing robust reporting and oversight frameworks for the Bank’s credit relationships

  • Recommend the thresholds related to the Bank’s credit risk appetite, including portfolio concentration limits, KPIs, and KRIs

  • Complete borrowing base analysis and document amendments for existing credit relationships as necessary

  • Assist in developing new credit product offerings

  • Drive Board and Loan Committee meeting materials, including presentations and associated reporting

  • Support cross-functional projects across Business, Biz-Ops, Go-To-Market, and Risk

  • Perform day-to-day activities consistent with safe and sound business practices and regulatory requirements

What you’ll need to be successful
  • 3-5 years of experience in a credit risk or similar role in financial services

  • Experience implementing credit risk management practices

  • Data-driven and able to analyze and synthesize observations and reporting from large amounts of information in order to drive recommendations or decision making

  • Ability to quickly review and evaluate credit products and identify relevant credit risks associated with the product offering

  • Experience with asset backed lending, loan portfolio analysis, or fintech banking partnerships

  • Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Comfort with project management, deadlines, and juggling execution across multiple initiatives for multiple stakeholders

  • Familiarity with banking regulation from a credit perspective is a plus

What you’ll get from us
  • 🏥 Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, including options that are 100% covered by Column for you and 100% covered for your dependents!

  • 👶 Comprehensive family planning and fertility benefits via partnership with Carrot, including reimbursement of up to $20,000 in qualified expenses

  • 💳 FSA and HSA account options to enable use of pre-tax money for medical and dependent care expenses

  • 📈 401k plan, including self-directed brokerage options

  • 🌴 Flexible time-off policy - take the time off that you want and need to relax and recharge

  • 👶 100% paid parental leave, including 16 weeks for birth mothers, 12 weeks for primary caregivers, and 8 weeks for secondary caregivers

  • 🍽️ Catered lunches and dinners for SF employees

  • 🚆 Commuter benefits

  • 🎉 Regular team building events, including annual offsite
