Notability is an industry-leading note taking application; our mission is to bring the expressivity of paper to the digital realm, so people can learn, study, and collaborate together better. These values are reflected in the way we work: we value empathy for our users, great design, and believe the best ideas can come from anywhere.

We’re looking for a Marketing Data Scientist to partner with our Marketing and Product teams and turn data into actionable insights, predictive models, and smarter marketing decisions. You will play a critical role in shaping Notability’s growth strategy through data-driven insights. This is a strategic yet hands-on position where you will analyze marketing performance, optimize campaigns, and develop predictive models to improve user acquisition and retention.

In addition to working closely with the Marketing team, you will also collaborate with the Product team to understand user behavior, experiment with new engagement strategies, and ensure that marketing efforts align with product evolution. You’ll work with internal and external data sources, integrating diverse datasets to create a holistic view of user interactions across Notability’s platforms.

This role is hybrid, with a minimum of two days (Tuesdays & Thursdays) onsite at our San Francisco office.

What You’ll Do:

Marketing Analytics & Performance Optimization

  • Analyze Marketing Campaigns: Measure marketing performance across paid, organic, referral, and in-app campaigns to optimize ROI and user acquisition efficiency.
  • Develop Marketing Attribution Models: Build and refine multi-touch attribution models to track user journeys and assess the effectiveness of various marketing channels.
  • Funnel & Retention Analysis: Conduct funnel and cohort analyses to identify user drop-off points and recommend data-driven improvements to increase retention and conversion rates.
  • User Segmentation & Personalization: Identify high-value user segments and work with the marketing team to optimize messaging, targeting, and personalization strategies.

Experimentation & Predictive Modeling

  • Predictive Modeling: Develop machine learning models for churn prediction, user lifetime value (LTV), engagement likelihood, and conversion forecasting.
  • Marketing Forecasting: Build forecasting models to predict trends in acquisition, retention, and revenue to inform budget allocation and strategy.
  • A/B Testing & Experimentation: Design and analyze A/B tests for ad creatives, landing pages, and other marketing initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Data Integration

  • Work Closely with Marketing & Product Teams: Act as the primary data science partner for the Marketing team, while also collaborating with Product and Growth teams to align marketing efforts with app evolution.
  • Gather & Integrate Data Across Sources: Work with internal and external data sources to build comprehensive datasets for analysis.
  • Ensure Data Quality & Accessibility: Partner with data engineering to ensure clean, reliable, and well-instrumented data pipelines that support marketing and product analytics.
  • Data Storytelling & Reporting: Create dashboards, automated reports, and executive presentations to communicate key insights and recommendations to marketing leadership.

What You Need:

  • 4+ years of experience in Marketing Data Science, Growth Analytics, or Marketing Analytics, with a strong focus on mobile app analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of marketing analytics tools.
  • Deep understanding of marketing metrics.
  • Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests to guide marketing and product decisions.
  • Strong data storytelling skills – ability to translate complex analyses into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive, self-starter attitude with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to juggle multiple priorities in a less structured environment.
