We are seeking a Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) who sits at the crossroads of MongoDB mastery and infrastructure automation. Whether you're a MongoDB DBA who codes or a DevOps/SRE engineer with deep MongoDB experience, this role is for someone who’s passionate about building scalable, resilient, and high-performance data systems.

In this role, you’ll help us evolve our database infrastructure using modern DevOps principles—automation-first, performance-driven, and cloud-ready. You’ll collaborate with developers, SREs, and DevOps engineers to integrate MongoDB into our CI/CD pipelines and ensure it runs smoothly at scale.

You bring deep expertise in MongoDB, including index management, query plan analysis, and performance tuning using CRUD operations and the Aggregation Framework. You're well-versed in replication strategies, scaling techniques (both vertical and horizontal), and disaster recovery planning. You’ve worked hands-on with MongoDB versions 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0 in production environments, and you understand how to ensure data integrity and system reliability. You have strong experience automating database operations using tools like Python or Ansible, and you're comfortable building resilient systems through scripting and infrastructure-as-code. In addition to your technical strengths, you have excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and presentation—and you collaborate effectively across SRE, DevOps, and engineering teams. You’re analytical, adaptable, and confident navigating complex, unexpected challenges to deliver results.

You Will:

  • Design, maintain, and scale high-performance MongoDB clusters (6.x–8.x) in production environments.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and automated remediation using Python, Ansible, or similar tooling.
  • Partner with SREs and DevOps to integrate MongoDB into CI/CD workflows and infrastructure-as-code
  • Optimize performance through query analysis, index design, and resource tuning
  • Plan and execute upgrades, migrations, sharding strategies, and capacity management
  • Drive backup and disaster recovery planning aligned with security best practices

You Have:

  • Deep experience configuring, tuning, and operating MongoDB in production (including versions 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0)
  • Strong knowledge of MongoDB indexing, query plans, replication, sharding, and aggregation framework
  • Proficiency in database automation and scripting, ideally using Python, Ansible, or similar tools
  • Solid understanding of disaster recovery, scaling strategies, and data integrity practices
  • Experience troubleshooting performance issues and implementing query/index optimization
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and infrastructure-as-code concepts
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills—you work well with cross-functional teams and can explain complex topics clearly
  • A problem-solver mindset with the ability to adapt and lead through ambiguity or unexpected technical challenges

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Elastic
  • Experience with networking and virtualization/containers
  • Experience with troubleshooting hardware issues
  • Experience with MongoDB security best practices

Education/Experience:

  • A Highschool Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in software development, database programming, or computer engineering is preferred.
  • 5+ years in an SRE position managing database workloads (preferably MongoDB workloads) or 5+ years in a developer position with advanced MongoDB knowledge.

General Remote Environment:

  • Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.
  • It may require long periods of sitting and viewing a computer monitor
  • No physical demands are required.
  • On- Call Rotation is required with the possibility during holidays as required by the business for 24/7 support.
  • Occasional Travel, less than 10%

Sponsorship:

  • This role is not sponsorship eligible.
  • Candidates need to be legally allowed to work in the US for any employer.
