About the Team

The OpenAI Comms Design Team (Design Studio) is pivotal in shaping and maintaining OpenAI’s brand identity across all platforms and audiences. We work at the intersection of product development, communications, marketing, engineering, and research—delivering cohesive storytelling and brand experiences.

Our mission is to communicate the advancements and benefits of AGI with beauty, accessibility, transparency, and authenticity. Within this mission, the Web and Digital Experience Team plays a critical role in creating, managing, and scaling web and digital programs that reflect OpenAI’s brand and global objectives, fostering company-wide collaboration and innovative solutions.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Studio UX Design leader to shape the future of OpenAI.com. This role is responsible for creating exceptional web experiences that bring our brand, mission, and products to life for a global audience. You’ll work closely with engineering, brand design, and marketing to build and evolve OpenAI.com into a world-class destination.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role you will:

  • Own the UX vision and strategy for OpenAI.com, creating clear, elegant, and scalable experiences across the site.

  • Lead design from concept to implementation: defining user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.

  • Collaborate deeply with engineers, brand designers, marketers, and writers to ship polished, high-performing experiences.

  • Balance user needs, technical constraints, and brand expression to craft delightful experiences for a broad set of audiences.

  • Help evolve our web design system in partnership with brand and engineering.

  • Guide and mentor other designers on the team, elevating the craft and execution quality across OpenAI.com.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 9+ years of experience designing large-scale, consumer-facing websites or web products.

  • Are a strong systems thinker who can architect intuitive, elegant experiences across complex information hierarchies.

  • Excel in cross-functional environments—you’re energized by collaborating with engineers, marketers, writers, and brand teams.

  • Can comfortably zoom between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.

  • Value craft and polish—you sweat the details to ensure a world-class user experience.

  • Are curious, humble, and mission-driven. You seek feedback and learn fast.

  • Experience working with modern web technologies and CMS platforms.

  • Familiarity with motion design or micro-interactions to enhance UX.

  • Background in A/B testing, UX research, or analytics to inform design decisions

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.
