About the team

OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make sure the work behind that idea is understood, as it leaves the lab and meets the world.

This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told, in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.

About the role

We’re looking for a Designer to create thoughtful, high-quality work across consumer campaigns and brand identity. You’ll contribute original ideas and turn creative direction into finished design across campaigns, digital experiences, social content, presentations, and brand materials.

This is a hands-on maker role for someone who enjoys moving between concept development and detailed execution. You’ll work closely with creative leads, writers, marketers, and producers, bringing strong visual craft and an active interest in using AI tools to explore and develop creative work.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop visual ideas for consumer campaigns and brand initiatives, exploring multiple directions and explaining how each supports the brief.

  • Translate creative direction into polished designs across digital, social, presentation, and campaign formats, with careful attention to typography and composition.

  • Contribute to identity and campaign systems, carrying a clear visual idea through layouts, imagery, and related assets.

  • Partner with writers, art directors, motion designers, and producers to connect words and visuals and prepare work for production.

  • Use AI-enabled tools to explore concepts and generate variations, applying design judgment to select, refine, and integrate useful results.

  • Build and maintain reusable templates and assets within established brand systems, keeping files organized and handoffs clear.

  • Incorporate feedback, check finished work across formats, and communicate progress and constraints so collaborators can plan around delivery.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • A portfolio showing strong visual ideas and execution across brand identity, campaigns, or related graphic design work.

  • A solid command of typography, layout, composition, image-making, and visual hierarchy, with close attention to production detail.

  • The ability to contribute to concept development and independently execute defined deliverables in collaboration with a creative lead.

  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent tools, with experience preparing files for collaborative design and production workflows.

  • Practical curiosity about AI-assisted creative workflows and the ability to assess generated work critically rather than accept it as finished design.

  • Clear communication, openness to critique, and the ability to manage multiple assignments as priorities and creative directions evolve.

  • Experience with consumer or technology brands, motion, illustration, or creative coding is helpful. We value a portfolio that makes your own contribution and design process clear.
