Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc.
Development Engineer, System Integration AD
Your role as a seasoned individual contributor is to integrate, verify and document software packages. In this role, you will be the key technical bridge between core platform software, vehicle application layers, and autonomous driving function. You will drive systematic triaging, deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA), and bug resolution for complex runtime, and signal-chain issues across ADAS SW. The role requires troubleshooting and debugging issues on software and signal level independently with limited supervision. We expect you to coordinate with the global team on a day-to-day basis and drive topics individually. You will get the chance to experience the next generation Mercedes-Benz ADAS Systems along its way to the customer.
Job Responsibilities:
- Have a clear understanding of the software architecture of our ADAS Stack.
- Analyze cross-layer interactions spanning Mercedes Base software (BSW) and functional stack. Adaptive AUTOSAR experience is a plus
- Lead end-to-end triage and root cause analysis for system-level failures, crashes, timing delays, stale socket behaviors, and function degradations occurring on bench and vehicle platforms
- Debug issues especially on the communication between ADAS and rest of vehicle ECUs via signal chain analysis.
- Problems faced are complex and may require understanding of a broader set of issues using prior experience and systematic analysis.
- Perform deep-dive trace investigations using logs, packet captures, QNX kernel/process logs, and vehicle bus to map signal propagation and pinpoint regression origins.
- Implementation of automation for triaging and analysis to improve day to day processes within the team.
- Maintain structured triage artifacts in Jira and Confluence, track issue resolution cycles, establish reproducible test steps, and define actionable handovers for component developers.
- Collaboration with international development teams and other external and internal partners to increase working efficiency.
- Understand and familiarize with software release planning, release milestones and incorporate this into decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Physics, Electric or related fields
- Minimum level of education required and required field of study:
- Excellent skills in software development and programming (C++, Python, bash,…)
- Solid understanding of ECU Base Software architectures, Hands-on experience with Adaptive
- AUTOSAR stacks, expertise in log parsing and analysis
- Experience in the development or validation of embedded systems in the automotive or consumer electronics industries
- Knowledge about ADAS/AD functions in scope for L2/L3 automated driving
- Experience with E/E integration and signal tracing as well as automotive communication protocols (CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet)
- Proficiency with diagnostic and tracing tools: DLT Viewer, Wireshark / SOME/IP analyzers, Vector CANoe / CANalyzer, QNX System Architecture & process profiling tools.
- Knowledge about build systems and compute platforms
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing boundary conditions
- Good communication skills, ability to formulate thoughts and ideas precisely in verbal and written form
- Occasional international travel might be required
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge about vehicles in general or any specific field like sensors, ECUs, etc.
- Excellent communication skills
- Curious, self-motivated, and excited about solving open-ended challenges at Mercedes-Benz
