Own and improve release, deployment, and OTA pipelines for Jetson-based robots and edge systems. Build cross-compilation workflows, fleet management, and reliability tooling (certs, auth, QUIC). Collaborate with robotics and software teams to standardize processes and ensure reproducible, safe rollouts across on-site fleet.

About the Team

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that automate repetitive manual work in real environments. We design and manufacture our hardware in-house, which means iteration, fabrication, and execution all happen under one roof.

Our software doesn't just run in the cloud — it has to deploy reliably across real robots, Jetsons, and internal systems used for testing and demos. Our engineering team works across robotics, embedded systems, and edge infrastructure, and we need strong operational foundations to support fast iteration and reliable releases.

About the Role

As a DevOps Engineer at Droyd, you will own the systems that make software deployment reliable across our robots and edge infrastructure. You will build release processes, improve deployment confidence, and create operational tooling that supports both engineering velocity and fleet reliability.

A central part of this role is dealing with the realities of Jetson-based systems: cross-compilation from x86_64 to aarch64, JetPack quirks, OTA workflows, and the infrastructure needed to keep a distributed hardware fleet working.

This role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.

In This Role, You'll

Release & Deployment

  • Build and maintain release and deployment pipelines for robots and edge systems

  • Own operational workflows across local development, Jetson devices, and production environments

  • Improve deployment confidence, reproducibility, and rollback safety across the fleet

Fleet & Edge Infrastructure

  • Improve OTA and fleet management workflows for deployed hardware

  • Handle cross-compilation workflows from x86_64 to aarch64 for Jetson-based systems

  • Work on the infrastructure behind certs, JWKS, QUIC, and other reliability-critical systems

Process & Collaboration

  • Work closely with robotics and software teams to standardize release, update, and system management practices

  • Drive process improvements in messy real-world systems

Work Environment & Schedule

  • On-site in San Francisco, CA

  • Full-time

Compensation: $120K–$200K base salary, plus equity

We're Looking For Candidates Who

  • Have strong DevOps or infrastructure engineering experience

  • Have deep Linux and Ubuntu experience

  • Have hands-on experience with JetPack and Jetson-based systems

  • Have experience with Docker Compose, systemd, fleet management, or OTA workflows

  • Can design practical deployment systems for hardware and edge environments

  • Have strong technical judgment and can drive process improvements in messy real-world systems

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Balena or Balena Etcher

  • Experience with embedded Linux or robotics deployments

  • Experience supporting cert, auth, or transport infrastructure in production systems

About Droyd

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that operate in real production environments. We design the hardware, develop the control stack, and generate the data that enables generalist robotics.

If we do this right, robots stop being demos and start being infrastructure.

Join us and help build the systems that make it real.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
