DEAR FUTURE DESIGNER,

  • Are you ready to work with a small team where your ideas can easily come to life?
  • Do you wish that your job wasn't so corporate?
  • Are you interested in building digital things and physical things?
  • Can you construct a sentence that doesn't use "things" 2 times?
  • Have you ever been just a little bummed when a client / marketing director asked you to "make the logo bigger"?

If you can own projects start to finish and have mastered your design execution, this might be a perfect opportunity for you.

WHO IS ORNOT?

We are a small but mighty cycling apparel company based in San Francisco with much of our clothing made right here in California.

Our mission is to create sustainable cycling apparel and accessories that are built to last. The company was founded in 2013 by a Graphic Designer (me) as "minimally branded cycling apparel" - You could be a rolling billboard, Ornot.

This was a reaction to the lazy, logo-driven design that had dominated the cycling industry for years. Since then, we've continued evolving our brand design, while also increasing our focus on sustainability and responsible business practices. Check out our "Special Projects". made using deadstock fabric for a fresh take on sustainable clothing.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join us as a full-time Graphic Designer and own our digital presence. You'll work closely with our small creative team, designing everything from marketing campaigns and motion graphics to product releases. This is a unique position to determine the visual growth and evolution of the brand- not just executing on projects already in the works, but identifying design opportunities and bringing fresh ideas. Over the long term, we're seeking someone who can continue to drive the design process and evolution of Ornot.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design and manage our website experience in Shopify- landing pages, product pages, site updates
  • Create digital marketing collateral for product launches, collaborations, and campaigns
  • Own email marketing design in Klaviyo from concept to send
  • Edit and color-correct product photography and lifestyle imagery
  • Produce motion graphics and video content for social media and web
  • Guide the visual evolution of the brand- spot design opportunities and bring fresh ideas
  • Collaborate on brand storytelling that connects our sustainability mission with customers
  • Jump in wherever needed (small team = wearing multiple hats)

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of professional design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating digital work
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and experience with Figma, Shopify and Klaviyo (or similar platforms)
  • Exceptional eye for typography, color, composition- you make things look good
  • Strong photo editing and color-correction skills
  • Ability to articulate design decisions and iterate based on feedback
  • Project management chops- you can self-direct, handle ambiguity, and finish strong on that final 5%
  • Visual storyteller- you can reduce complex ideas into simple to understand ideas.
  • Obsessive attention to detail (it should be baked into your process)
  • Clear communication skills- you collaborate well and don't work in a silo
  • Willingness to shift between tasks and help out even when it's not strictly design work
  • Enthusiasm for bikes and ability to join work rides (we have our best ideas on two wheels)
  • Interest in staying current with design trends and tools, including AI when it's useful

BONUS POINTS

  • Video production and editing experience
  • Photography experience (lifestyle or studio)
  • Social Media expert communicator
  • Prior e-commerce experience

HOW WE WORK

  • On-site at our Inner Richmond studio and showroom
  • Small, collaborative team where your work matters
  • Regular work rides- we test what we make
  • We use deadstock and recycled fabrics and build gear to last
  • We work hard, but we also have fun.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
