Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting Operations to lead and oversee our accounting operations team. This role is critical to ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of our financial processes as we scale. The ideal candidate will bring strategic leadership, process improvement expertise, and the ability to drive operational excellence across payroll, accounts payable (AP) and procurement, expense management, and financial systems.

This position is open to both remote and hybrid applicants. For those based in Mountain View, this role will require in-office work 2-3 days a week. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000 - $245,000+ equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

What You’ll Do:
  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting operations team, including payroll, accounts payable, and financial systems.
    • Establish and monitor KPIs to assess team performance and ensure alignment with department and company goals.
    • Sets strategy and execution plan for department to achieve mid-term team results (> 3 mos). Defines strategy for the team in alignment with stakeholders, company-wide priorities and customer needs.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Oversee the monthly close process, ensuring accurate and timely reconciliations of key accounts.
    • Optimize workflows and processes to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and mitigate risk.
    • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Systems & Technology
    • Drive the effective use of technology, including ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite), expense management tools (e.g., Expensify, Brex), and payroll platforms.
    • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to evaluate, implement, and integrate new systems as needed to support scaling operations.
  • Process Improvements
    • Identify and lead initiatives to automate manual processes in payroll, AP, and expense management.
    • Develop and document policies, procedures, and best practices to support scalability and readiness for public company reporting.
  • Compliance & Reporting
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and other relevant financial reporting standards.
    • Partner with the technical accounting team and external advisors to prepare for IPO readiness, focusing on operational processes and controls.
  • Collaboration
    • Partner with treasury, tax, and other stakeholders to align accounting operations with overall company objectives.
    • Support internal and external audits, addressing operational accounting inquiries and ensuring timely resolution of findings.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting operations, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial controls, and accounting operations best practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and tools like Expensify, Ramp, or Brex.
  • Proven ability to lead process improvements, implement controls, and drive efficiency in a scaling environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Experience preparing for IPO or operating in a public company environment is a plus.
