Job Description

This is multi-disciplined leadership position requiring a broad range of skills around medical devices, information technology, cybersecurity and telephony. This position combines tactical and strategic themes across the entire continuum of care applying engineering, technical and managerial expertise to the identification, acquisition and support of safe, effective and economical technology as needed by ECH for patient care, innovation and community service. This leader directs the planning and implementation of medical device integration to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). This position has a key role in the strategic acquisition and implementation of new software and interfaces to improve medical device interoperability and raise productivity between those using medical devices and computers as a single entity. This position has responsibility for medical device security, working directly with the Chief Information Security Officer to ensure the integrity of data acquired and secured on medical devices, including the protection of Personal Health Information (PHI). . As a key clinical and IT leader this person leads efforts around designing, implementing and supporting programs for medical devices and networks, in the home, mobile devices and with the integration of medical devices in those settings including the acquisitions, repair and replacement of these devices and interfaces. Additionally this is a vital role in leading and managing the vendors needed to carry out this mission. As the senior subject matter expert this leader will be confirming the documentation of ECH standards for medical device image transfer, DICOM, HL7 device transactions and Medical Grade Wireless Utilities. In addition to directing the efforts to clearly demark responsibilities around medical device, telephony and computer system interoperability this person will be part of the strategy and day to day support efforts. This position will also have direct oversight to establish and support comprehensive methods and support for Telemedicine and those lead the work necessary for deploying telemedicine solutions enterprise and community wide. This person will be leading the efforts to design, acquire and support Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems and software. As a Director within Information Services this position will lead both union and non-union staff members and most work effectively in a hybrid represented environment. Part of this role will be to work with other Divisional Directors to design integrated service and support models for CE/Biomed./IT/Telephony teams. The individual in this position is responsible to direct and manage the safe, efficient and effective operations of biomedical equipment throughout El Camino Hospital and ambulatory facilities. Responsible for overall program direction, planning, resource management and controls including, repairs, supplies, medical device inventory database and purchased services to ensure that equipment is fully operational. This person oversees the day to day activities of the Biomedical Engineering technicians including staffing, policies and procedures, budget, and service. The Director provides effective, efficient and financially sound department operations and demonstrates responsibility to meet or exceed budget targets and create project budgets and plans. The Director oversees hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development of the Biomedical Engineering Team. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director serves as a primary resource for direct reports, team members, users, and vendors regarding organizational and Information Services best practice standards, device deployment, reengineering of workflows, and the overall effectiveness of medical devices May need to travel between organizations, campus locations and ambulatory locations to perform duties. The Director may participate in the Information Services Duty Manager on call rotation and is responsible for all other duties assigned by the CIO This role supports the Environment of Care through participation in the Central Safety Committee and as a Safety Work Group Leader. This person is responsible to meet the needs of patients, care givers and other customers in a positive and supportive fashion. Qualifications 1. BA degree in healthcare, engineering, IT or other technical field OR, equivalent experience as a Chief of Clinical Engineering for minimum of five years. 2. Master’s degree preferred. 3. Minimum 7 years of biomedical engineering experience. 4. Minimum five years experience overseeing staff in a management or direct supervisory role as the most senior leader of the biomedical engineering team. 5. Minimum five years experience with direct management of budget including development of capital and operating budgets. 6. Three years project management experience leading complex initiatives including assessment, planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of new processes, applications, and/or systems. 7. Experience at multi-tasking and working in high-pressure situations and able to deliver quality and on time results. 8. Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and other state, federal, and local laws.

Salary Range:

$90.50 - $135.75 USD Hour
