Become a part of our caring community and help us put health first

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Cyber Countermeasure Director to lead a specialized team focused on ensuring our cyber defense tooling is mission-ready, threat-informed, and continuously optimized. This role is critical to our cybersecurity posture, ensuring that our preventive and detective capabilities are aligned with actionable threat intelligence and are capable of disrupting adversarial activity. In this context, a Cyber Countermeasure is defined as an active defensive mechanism or control designed to disrupt, neutralize, or mitigate cyber threats during or immediately prior to an attack. Unlike tools that only identify weaknesses (such as vulnerability scanners), cyber countermeasures directly interfere with adversarial actions or reduce their impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small, high-performing team responsible for cyber countermeasure readiness.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for cyber countermeasure tooling.
  • Ensure all countermeasure tools are continuously evaluated against current and emerging threat intelligence.
  • Establish and maintain a prioritized book of work for countermeasure enhancements.
  • Partner with countermeasure delivery teams to prioritize work and investment to maximize countermeasure readiness.
  • Define and implement metrics and monitoring strategies to measure effectiveness and readiness.
  • Collaborate with threat intelligence, incident response, and security operations teams to ensure alignment and integration.
  • Collaborate with threat intelligence, incident response, and security operations to ensure specific kill chains and TTP’s likelihood of success are continuously reduced.
  • Collaborate with Offensive Security to create and execute regular validation testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement of countermeasure capabilities to maximize disruption of cyber threats.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on countermeasure strategy, progress, and effectiveness.

Use your skills to make an impact

    Required Qualifications

    • Proven experience in cybersecurity leadership, preferably in threat detection, prevention, or countermeasure strategy.
    • Strong understanding of threat intelligence, security tooling, and cyber kill chain concepts.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive strategic initiatives.
    • Experience with security technologies such as SIEM, EDR, NDR, IDS/IPS, and threat intelligence platforms.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • Ability to translate technical concepts into business-relevant outcomes.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, or critical infrastructure.
    • Certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK and Pre-ATT&CK
    • Experience conducting threat modeling
    • Familiar with adversary emulation, offensive security, or incident response.

    Remote/WAH requirements:

    • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
    • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.
    • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
    • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.
