Lead and grow a 10+ engineer team to build AI-driven Revenue Cycle Management products for dental care. Define architecture and engineering standards, align cross-functional teams, drive product delivery from 0-1 and 1-to-N, implement best practices and CI/CD, and occasionally contribute to code while communicating strategy to senior leadership.

Lead the Future of Dentistry.

Overjet is the world-leader in dental AI. Already, thousands of dental providers and insurers rely on our platform to deliver the best possible care. Now, we’re looking for talented people to fulfill our mission: improve oral health for all.

Overjet is where builders become leaders. Everyone here loves to make new things: new products, new partnerships, new content, and a new category of AI technology. And as Overjet grows ridiculously fast, so will you.

Simply put, there’s no better place to accelerate your career. Come join us!

The Mission and the Hard Part

Every new AI product Overjet ships starts as an idea with no infrastructure, no team, and no proven playbook, and someone has to turn that idea into a shipped, scaled product without breaking what already works elsewhere in the business. That's this role. You'll build and lead a team of 10+ engineers dedicated to Overjet's newest AI-driven products, reporting to our Head of Engineering, Practice. You'll own the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) platform: the system providers and payers rely on to get dental claims priced clearly and paid accurately. If this team doesn't exist, our next wave of AI products doesn't get built. Not because the ideas aren't there, but because nobody owns turning ambiguity into architecture, headcount into a functioning org, and early bets into production systems that dentists, payers, and patients actually trust.

This is a 0-1 job wrapped inside a company that's already moving fast, which means you'll be defining technical standards and building an org that doesn't fully exist yet, staying hands-on enough in the codebase and architecture reviews to earn real credibility, and doing all of it while the rest of Overjet keeps sprinting. If you need a mature roadmap and an established team in place before you're willing to lead, this isn't the seat. If you'd rather build the team, the architecture, and the roadmap at the same time, and you're energized by proving out something genuinely new, keep reading.

What You'll Own

  • You will own the build-out of a 10+ engineer organization dedicated to new AI-driven products for our revenue cycle management platform, which means hiring, structuring, and scaling teams across global locations as scope and headcount grow, not just managing whoever already reports to you on day one.

  • You will own the technical architecture and roadmap for revenue cycle management and future new-product lines, which means making build, buy, and sequencing calls under real ambiguity, not executing a plan someone else already scoped.

  • You will own alignment between engineering, product, and architecture teams on what gets built and when, which means resolving competing priorities yourself when they don't naturally converge on their own.

  • You will own engineering standards and technical credibility for the new-products org, which means staying close enough to the code and architecture reviews that your judgment carries real weight, not just your title.

  • You will own capacity planning and engineering operations for your organization, which means forecasting staffing needs against the roadmap and making the hard prioritization calls when they don't line up.

  • You will own the relationship with senior leadership on technical direction for new products, which means translating engineering reality into business terms and advocating for what your team actually needs to deliver.

What Makes the Right Candidate Keep Reading

You should already know what it feels like to build 0-1 and then scale past it, ideally with real experience implementing LLM-based products in production, not just prototyping with them. What matters more than any specific technology is whether you can operate without a fully-formed roadmap and build one as you go, making prioritization calls that disappoint someone most weeks because the alternative is worse. You're a hiring partner first, not last: growing this org means you treat recruiting and developing talent as core to the job, not something you delegate and forget. If you thrive with a mature architecture, a settled team, and a roadmap someone else already stress-tested, this role will frustrate you. If you want to build all three from an early stage while still writing code often enough to earn trust in a review, this is exactly the seat.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred; substantial equivalent experience is welcome in its place.

  • Skills: Full-stack engineering depth, strong knowledge of SaaS architecture and cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS), and hands-on familiarity with Java, Python, JavaScript, Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and/or Infrastructure as Code.

  • Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineering organizations of 8+ people across multiple teams, with a track record of 0-1 product builds.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
