The Opportunity

The Director, FP&A is a strategic finance leader responsible for helping Praxis make high-quality decisions that accelerate the development and delivery of life-altering treatments for patients with CNS disorders. This role owns components of enterprise-wide planning, forecasting, and resource allocation, partnering closely with leaders across a variety of functions, which may include R&D, Clinical Operations, Commercial and G&A.

As Praxis advances multiple late-stage programs toward commercialization, this leader will play a critical role in helping to drive big investment decisions: which programs to accelerate, how to fund the pipeline and what it takes to launch our first products. The role will have direct exposure to the CFO, remainder of executive team and program leadership, and help the organization navigate uncertainty with clarity, rigor and speed. Success requires strong financial expertise, exceptional business judgment, and the ability to influence a flat, highly collaborative organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with other FP&A team members to drive the company-wide financial planning processes (budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning) with rigor and strategic insight.
  • Serve as a thought partner to support planning, tradeoffs and investment decisions, proactively sharing insights recommendations, opportunities and other ways to improve both financial and business performance.
  • Serve as dedicated FP&A partner to program teams and functional leaders across the organization, embedding financial insight into how the business plans, operates and makes decisions day to day.
  • Partner with senior leaders to evaluate strategic opportunities, challenge assumptions and drive disciplined decision-making around investments, resource allocation and portfolio priorities.
  • Advance financial systems, reporting and analytics to improve decision-making and accountability across the business.
  • Champion the adoption of AI and automation across FP&A to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort and free up capacity for higher-value analysis.
  • Ensure resource alignment with corporate strategy; conduct scenario analyses and risk/opportunity assessments.
  • Identify emerging risks and opportunities early, proactively raising issues and proposing solutions that support company objectives.
  • Build financial transparency across the organization by translating complex analyses into clear, actionable insights that enable faster and better decisions.
  • Support the accounting close process as needed, partnering with Accounting to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications and Key Success Factors

  • BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years in FP&A or other financial operations role. Biotech or pharma experience required.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, with a strong understanding of forecasting methodologies and clinical program accruals.
  • Proven track record of cross-functional influence and executive communication.
  • Experience applying AI and automation tools to enhance financial analyses, reporting and decision-making.
  • Able to thrive in ambiguity, lead through change and inspire results.
  •  The physical and mental requirements of our roles include but are not limited to regular use of a computer, devices or other office equipment, clear communication, and occasional movement.  You'll need comfort with screen work, basic hand coordination, and focus.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
