Overview

The Privacy and AI Responsibility team is seeking a **Director, Privacy Engineering** to lead our Privacy and Data Governance strategy with a strong emphasis on **ring-fencing controls** for sensitive data environments. This leader will be passionate about safeguarding data while enabling responsible innovation, highly motivated, intellectually curious, and adept at navigating complex regulatory and technical landscapes.
This role will ensure organizational excellence in implementing privacy-preserving technological safeguards and compliance with global data laws, including GDPR and other international privacy regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead ring-fencing strategy and implementation** for sensitive data environments, ensuring strict segregation of data assets, access controls, and compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
* Design and enforce **Databricks clean room architectures** for secure data transfers and isolation, ensuring privacy and confidentiality in multi-party analytics environments.
* Conduct technical reviews of data platforms and products, advising on **privacy-by-design (PbD)** controls such as deidentification, encryption, and privacy-enhancing technologies.
* Partner with technology and business teams to embed privacy requirements throughout the product lifecycle, including AI modeling and analytics workflows.
* Develop and enforce governance frameworks for data and AI in cloud infrastructures, ensuring compliance with Mastercard's Binding Corporate Rules and global standards.
* Translate Privacy Impact Assessment findings into actionable technical and administrative controls, driving execution across cross-functional teams.
* Establish automated privacy guardrails and compliance monitoring tools to demonstrate adherence to ring-fencing and PbD principles.
* Own execution of regular privacy compliance assessments, identifying and mitigating risks through effective tools, training, and guidance.
* Provide executive-level updates on program progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
All About You
* Proven experience implementing **ring-fencing controls** and data segregation strategies in complex, cloud-based environments.
* Experience with **Databricks clean rooms** and related privacy-preserving technologies for secure data collaboration and isolation.
* Experience with implementing privacy data classification methods and tagging in Google workplace, Google docs and Slack for secure data collaboration and isolation.
* Experience with **Microsoft Purview**, **Scalar**, and **Data Loss Prevention (DLP) systems** for data governance and compliance.
* Degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field preferred.
* Demonstrated expertise in privacy engineering, privacy-by-design methodologies, and global privacy regulations (GDPR, etc.).
* Certifications such as CIPT, CIPM, or CISSP highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills to simplify technical concepts for diverse audiences, including regulators and executives.
* Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in Canada, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive pay based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
