Overview

Cypress Creek Energy (CCE) is seeking a seasoned project originator, developer, and team leader for a Senior Director role on our Project Sourcing team. The Senior Director will lead and execute CCE initiatives to grow Cypress Creek’s project pipeline through addition of powered land for data centers, and solar and BESS projects for CCE’s hyperscale and utility partners. The Senior Director responsibilities include all aspects of new project formation, drawing on deep strategy execution, project development, and team leadership expertise to add complex multi-technology, executable projects to the U.S. pipeline. The Senior Director will be a player/coach with the ability to execute project campaigns while leading and mentoring a team. This role is integral to CCE’s goals to build a sustainable long-term growth strategy, collaborating with Revenue, EPCM, Policy, Structured Finance, and other SMEs to create a diversified pipeline targeting multiple transmission-scale market segments.

The Senior Director will report to the VP of Project Sourcing and will have direct exposure to CCE’s executive leadership team and Board. Given the high level of visibility and impact, applicants should bring demonstrated experience with creating valuable project pipelines in multiple RTO/ISO regions, driving internal and external development processes through persistent pursuit of excellence and continuous process improvement, influencing decision makers through quantitative rigor and communication excellence, and broad positive impact across teams, companies and industries. The successful candidate will join a well-funded and rapidly growing diversified energy company backed by EQT, one of the largest infrastructure investors in the world owning companies in data center and other energy industries. 

An effective candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational habits, comprehensive communication skills, a desire to solve complex problems, enthusiastic initiative, and negotiation acumen. They will also exhibit strong team management capabilities and an excellent ability to work with others across multiple teams in the company.

Responsibilities

  • Working with Project Sourcing and CCE partner teams and companies to shape and execute project and pipeline formation and structuring strategies
  • Familiarity with early and late-stage development requirements for powered land for large loads and demonstrated expertise with solar and BESS projects. Experience with natural gas-fired generation and gas infrastructure requirements is preferred
  • Coordinating with subject matter expert teams, including our Revenue, EPCM, Policy, Structured Finance and other SMEs to determine strategy conformance, project viability and related criteria
  • Lead, mentor and support a team as a player/coach in project origination and development work, with ready interest and ability to get their hands dirty
  • Manage individual and corporate land agents and apply a suite of existing and new options for each campaign 
  • Ground lease and purchase agreements negotiation expertise gained by having direct boots on the ground
  • Apply expertise in transmission interconnection procedures, risks and opportunities to identify grid sweet spots with achievable access to optimal POIs
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills across all areas of project origination and development
  • Intimate knowledge of local and state policy and permitting risks, with experience getting projects through difficult land use, tax abatement, and other approvals
  • Demonstrated expertise in evaluating and applying cutting edge GIS and development tracking platforms that integrate AI as appropriate

Education & Experience Required

  • 8+ years working experience in energy project development and site acquisition work 
  • Ability to travel 25-50% of the time depending on campaigns
  • Team leadership experience 
  • Strong work ethic and ability to self-start in a fast-paced environment 
  • Execution driven and solutions oriented 
  • Strong organization, communication skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent internal and external negotiation and influencing skills 
  • A self-starter with ability to work under limited supervision that seeks help when needed 
  • Positive team player focused on collaboration and selfless application expertise and leadership for the benefit of the team and CCE

Location: The preferred location for this role is one of our office locations: Asheville, NC; Durham, NC; Chicago, IL or San Francisco, CA. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-office schedule of three days per week. We are also open to remote.

Compensation: The salary range for the position is $240,000 plus. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
