Chromatic is looking for a Director of Technical Sales to lead our technical go-to-market strategy and grow our Technical Sales function as we scale our Enterprise business. You'll lead and develop the Sales and Solutions Engineering team while partnering closely with Sales and Customer Success to ensure successful technical evaluations and long-term customer success.

In this role, you'll define the vision, strategy, and best practices for the Technical Sales organization while enabling your team to deliver exceptional customer experiences. You'll work cross-functionally to shape go-to-market strategy, strengthen technical sales execution, and ensure the Technical Sales function scales alongside the business.

This is a fully remote position and the candidate must be located in the US or Canada.

What you'll do
  • Define the technical strategy for Enterprise opportunities and partner with Sales to enable your team to drive successful outcomes across complex buying cycles.

  • Lead and grow the Sales Engineering team through hiring, coaching, mentorship, onboarding, and enablement while fostering a high-performing, customer-centric culture.

  • Own the vision, strategy, and operational excellence of the Sales and Solutions Engineering functions, establishing scalable processes, best practices, and measurable success metrics.

  • Help shape Chromatic's go-to-market strategy by bringing customer insights, technical expertise, and market trends into cross-functional planning and decision-making.

  • Partner with Customer Success to ensure a seamless customer journey from technical evaluation through adoption and expansion.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to translate customer insights into strategic product recommendations that influence roadmap prioritization.

  • Define and track key Sales Engineering metrics, using data to improve team performance, technical evaluations, and business outcomes.

What we're looking for
  • 8+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Developer Relations, or a similar customer-facing technical role.

  • 3+ years of experience leading and developing high-performing Sales Engineering or Solutions Engineering teams.

  • Proven success leading complex Enterprise technical sales engagements and influencing technical buying decisions with engineering leaders and executive stakeholders.

  • Experience building and scaling Sales Engineering organizations, processes, playbooks, and technical programs.

  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Marketing to drive business outcomes.

  • Strong executive communication and consultative leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value and influence technical and business stakeholders.

  • Strategic, data-driven leader with a passion for coaching teams, navigating ambiguity, and balancing customer needs with business objectives.

  • Experience in developer tools.

  • Experience with Storybook and/or Chromatic.
