About the company

Our client is a defense and aerospace technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Write and maintain C++ code that runs directly on autonomous vehicles, tying software to sensors and mechanical systems. Investigate problems with the help of data traces and lab rigs, and roll out improvements to vehicles working in the field.

What you'll do

- Own production C++ code that executes on the vehicle itself.

- Connect sensors and electromechanical subsystems, including energy storage, drive and control hardware, to the vehicle software.

- Investigate hard-to-find faults by combining recorded data, lab rigs and hands-on examination, then release corrections to vehicles already in service.

- Enable new sensors and additional mission features as customer needs change.

- Create tooling for configuring, deploying and upgrading software across a globally distributed group of vehicles.

- Verify that new software and hardware work together on actual vehicles and raise day-to-day dependability.

- Collaborate with platform software colleagues and hardware engineers so the complete system performs well.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- At least 4 years of solid C++ work on production code that sits close to hardware.

- A track record of shipping code to physical devices that communicate with sensors, actuators and controllers.

- Hands-on experience testing, releasing and supporting code on low-level or embedded platforms and physical products.

- Experience bringing sensors and vehicle components into an onboard software environment.

- Strong diagnostic habits, including reading log output and recreating faults on a bench.

- Must hold US Person status.

- Willingness to work on-site three days a week.

Bonus points

- Prior work in robotics, self-driving, aerospace, defense or maritime settings.

- Familiarity with embedded Linux, real-time platforms, board bring-up or in-vehicle networking.

- Exposure to supporting a live fleet of deployed vehicles.

Benefits

Compensation and benefits

- Base salary: USD 144,000 to 300,000 per year

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
