About Watershed

Watershed is the enterprise sustainability platform. Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for voluntary and regulatory reporting including CSRD, and drive real decarbonization. We are looking for team members who love product-building, want to work hard at a mission-oriented startup, and will collaborate with us in shaping the culture of a growing team.

We have offices in San Francisco, New York, Denver, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, Mexico City, and remote team members across the US and Europe. We hope that you'll be interested in joining us!

The role

Do you love to build great technology and great teams? Watershed is working to scale a world-class engineering team, and we’re hiring an Engineering Manager for our Cloud Infrastructure team to help lead this work. This team is responsible for enabling Watershed to scale with the growth of our customer base and complexity of our product. They own and innovate on the foundational infrastructure that powers Watershed’s multi-region deployment on GCP.

We’re looking for a leader to help set an ambitious and exciting vision for the team, get in the weeds of a diverse range of difficult and interesting problems, and empower each engineer on the team to do the best work of their career to-date. Each Engineering Manager at Watershed is going to customize the role a bit — contributing a blend of technical, people, and product experience. As one of the early managers in a fast growing company, you’ll be setting the culture not just for engineering but for Watershed as a whole. You, along with the rest of Watershed’s leadership and people teams, are responsible for building a diverse, inclusive, and hard-working organization. We are excited to work on this together!

In this role, you will:

  • Be the front-line manager leading the Cloud Infrastructure team, through a mix of people, technical, and product leadership

  • Inspire and lead the team through the next phases of growth ($100M+), including recruiting to grow the team, and adapting the team’s charter and vision, as the business needs evolve

  • Partner closely with other functions in Engineering and cross-functional partners like Security and Finance to set direction, priorities, and ensure smooth collaboration

You might be a good fit if you have:

  • At least 1-4 years of direct engineering management experience

  • 6+ years of overall developer and management experience in total

  • A strong platform engineering background of building business-specific systems that other engineering teams use, with thoughtful interfaces and smart abstractions

  • Hands-on experience with GCP or comparable cloud provider and a typical cloud infrastructure feature set (eg: managing containerized compute, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, multi-region database architecture, observability, reliability & SLOs, cloud security)

  • B2B experience, and big plus to have enterprise SaaS experience

  • A mix of scrappy startup and big company experience is a plus

This position is required to be in our San Francisco HQ

Must be willing to work from an office 4 days per week (except for remote roles)

Watershed has hub offices in San Francisco, New York, London, and Mexico City and satellite offices in Denver, Sydney, Paris, and Berlin. Where we have offices, employees are expected to be in office for 4 days per week. Certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description if so.

What’s the interview process like?

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience interview (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.

What if I need accommodations for my interview?

At Watershed, we are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process. We provide reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, mental health needs, religious observances, neurodivergence, or pregnancy-related support requirements. If you need assistance during your process, please contact your recruiter.
