About Us

At Hayden AI, we are on a mission to harness the power of computer vision to transform the way transit systems and other government agencies address real-world challenges.

From bus lane and bus stop enforcement to transportation optimization technologies and beyond, our innovative mobile perception system empowers our clients to accelerate transit, enhance street safety, and drive toward a sustainable future.

Job Summary:

Hayden Portal is the full-stack web application at the heart of all Hayden products. Transit agencies rely on Portal to track and manage their fleets and review critical video data. Our Sales team uses it to run customer pilots—an essential driver of our growth. Operations depends on it to deliver exceptional customer support. Enforcement agencies, such as Sheriff's Departments and Departments of Transportation, use Portal to evaluate potential violations and ensure compliance with the law before citations are issued.

We’re seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the development of Portal—across backend systems, frontend experiences, and everything in between. You’ll guide a talented team of software engineers building this mission-critical platform that powers Hayden’s core business.

Responsibilities:

  • People: You’ll cultivate a high-performing, motivated team. You’ll inspire top performers to go further and coach others to grow. You’ll turn company goals into clear, actionable deliverables for your team—and provide the support needed to hit them. Accountability, clarity, and mentorship will be your tools.

  • Execution: You’ll design and run a day-to-day development process that enables the team to consistently ship high-quality products on a reliable schedule. Expect to take a pragmatic approach—blending elements of Scrum, Kanban, and even Waterfall as needed. Your focus will be on unblocking work, mitigating risks, and maximizing team productivity.

  • Product: As a growing company, we expect you to have a strong voice in shaping the product. You’ll act as the bridge between the team and our customers—representing user needs to the engineers and engineering constraints to stakeholders. You’ll collaborate closely with Product Management and Customer Success to make this happen.

  • Technical: Hayden is a technical company, and we expect our leaders to be in the code. You’ll participate in design discussions, review pull requests, and stay close to the work. You don’t need to be the fastest coder on the team—but you should lead from the front and set the technical tone.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • 7-10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in direct management roles

  • Experience leading hybrid teams, with local and distributed team members

  • Deep understanding of modern web development, including React, databases, and event-driven architecture

  • Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects

  • Strong product sensibility and the ability to align teams around UI/UX and product strategy

  • Exceptional people skills: empathy, conflict resolution, mentorship, and team-building

  • Hybrid onsite - 3 days a week in our SF office (Tues.. Wed. and Thurs.).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Golang and/or Python.

  • Proficiency in React.

  • Experience with AWS/cloud infrastructure: Terraform, EKS/Kubernetes, S3, EC2, Cognito, RDS, etc.
