Join our dynamic teams designing and developing next-gen energy technologies and help drive a sustainable future!

About the Role

This role sits within CTO team on the Solid-State Transformer (SST) platform team. We design and deliver the embedded firmware for Enphase's next-gen grid-scale energy conversion systems. We are hiring at Staff, Senior Staff, and Principal levels. Every engineer writes code, debugs hardware, and owns outcomes; higher levels carry increasing architecture ownership and technical leadership.

What You Will Do

  • Design and ship firmware for real-time embedded systems in C/C++.
  • Develop board- and system-level firmware across multi-processor/core platforms (bare-metal, Zephyr RTOS).
  • Integrate real-time control loops with application and control processors.
  • Co-define HW/SW boundaries and drive systems bring-up with hardware and power electronics teams.
  • Drive end-to-end validation — unit tests, HIL, and prototype testing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally through DVT, factory test, and field quality.
  • At senior levels: own platform architecture, lead reviews, mentor engineers, and drive hiring.

Who You Are and What You Bring

  • BS and 8+ years / MS and 6+ years / PhD and 3+ years design experience for a Staff Engineer
  • BS and 12+ years / MS and 8+ years / PhD and 5+ years design experience for a Sr. Staff Engineer
  • Candidates with greater levels of experience may be considered and are encouraged to apply
  • Expert-level C and Modern C++ for real-time embedded applications.
  • Bare-metal and Zephyr RTOS firmware development.
  • Experience in functional safety firmware development.
  • ARM Cortex-M/R microcontroller architectures and peripherals (ADC, PWM, UART, I2C, SPI, CAN).
  • Comfortability works from low-level driver development through application development.
  • Hardware bring-up, schematic reading, reading datasheets and driver development.
  • ARM Cortex-M microcontroller architectures and peripherals (ADC, PWM, UART, I2C, SPI, CAN).
  • Hardware bring-up, schematic reading, and driver development.
  • Closed-loop control algorithm implementation on embedded targets.
  • System testing and debug with oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and HIL setups.
  • Python scripting for test automation and tooling.
  • Track record of shipping products from concept through manufacturing and field support.

Additional Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with development tools such as Docker, GCC, GDB, VS Code, GNU Make, CMake, etc.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized build environments using tools such as Docker, Bitbucket Pipelines, or GitHub Actions
  • Embedded Linux (Yocto, BSP, device tree); ARM Cortex-A processors.
  • Bootloader design, secure boot, and OTA update mechanisms.
  • Industrial communication interfaces and protocols: RS485, CAN FD, UWB, Ethernet, Modbus RTU/TCP.
  • Power conversion, energy storage, grid-connected equipment, or BMS experience.
  • UL/IEC standards for power electronics products.
  • Familiarity with UL1998, IEC60730, IEC61850
  • Zephyr RTOS.
